The site was very muddy and frankly unusable. We ended up in a private campground.

I had no idea how different the ND and SD badlands are. Buffalo were everywhere. Lots of wild horses. The park is stunningly beautiful. I can see why Teddy Roosevelt loved the area. The campground was laid out wonderfully. Lots of room. No hookups but wonderful.

We enjoyed the scenery and learning about Theadore Roosevelt and the park while earning junior ranger badges. The facilities were clean and modern in this campground nestled along the edge of the river. We saw bison and turkeys from the campground. We had rain during our stay and our site(and others) had significant puddles and mud to deal with, graveled or paved sites would make this campground perfect.
