I waited until the end of the season to write this review for two reasons:
1. To get my belongings off the property safely.
2. To avoid dealing with the Lawson’s constant threats and open-ended nonsense.
My family and I camped at Big Sandy for over three full seasons. Last year, I kept my site only so I could remove my belongings at my own pace. I say this because the Lawsons, in multiple forums and conversations, constantly reminded campers about “their rules,” “the law,” and what they’re “owed.” They even like to mention what “Nate the law dawg” was going to do if anyone didn’t like it.
All current seasonal campers were told we owed $300 for winter storage — a fee we had never paid before. Being told this fee was due before any meeting had taken place, any new rules, contracts or anything had been provided. We were to just pay $300. When we questioned it, we were called racists and were told, “If you don’t like it, be out by March 1st.” Who makes people move out in the middle of winter when it’s below 20 degrees, with decks and campers frozen in place? My wife and I said we’d pay the seasonal rate and move at our own pace. That decision led to multiple phone calls, texts, and voicemails — even on holidays (calling my wife and I on Easter Sunday, while out of town) or when I was out of the country — because they needed to be heard.
It was always something: cinder blocks were the wrong way, leaves, a shed, or some other minor issue that didn’t amount too much. Which they themselves didn't even clean up. With them, it was always their way or the highway. I’ve never met people so obsessed with control or how others react to them. Respect is a two-way street — and that was never the case here.
Many honest reviews have been deleted before and claimed to be part of a smear campaign, but this isn’t part of any “smear campaign.” We knew things were going to change under new management, but not to a point of dictatorship. It’s simply a group of people telling the truth about how they were treated and talked to, and we have a right to our voice from our side of how things happened and how this place is now being run. When 40+ families walk away because of the same treatment, that says something.
I’m sure once this is posted, I’ll be called out for one reason or another — and that’s fine. I’ve left hundreds of reviews across the country and never had an issue anywhere else. This one, however, needed to be said.

Hello Campers, we would like to share our experience at Superior Made RV Resort with you.
We pulled in around 2:30 in the afternoon and drove up to the office, there was no one there, the door was locked and no packet for us to know where to go. We knew we were supposed to be on site # 3 back in so we walked to that site only to see it was occupied. We waited for about 45 minutes before we finally met one of the owners-Alicia. She was very apologetic and said they had been in a campground seasonal campers meeting. She asked if we would like a free upgrade to a lake view site and she took us on a ride in the golf cart to take a look. We liked the site, it was way towards the end of the campground and was nice and private. She also through in a free septic drain on the house. Things happen, it's all about how you handle the situation, above and beyond with Alicia!
The campground is a work in progress as it was recently acquired by the new owners, we understood this during our call to register. Our expectations were not high. The site was reasonably priced for the amenities provided, and both owners (Alicia and Nate) were very nice and made you feel welcome.
The site needs some work as it took some time to get our fifth wheel to level, once we finally got it the site was nice and the view beautiful. The campground itself needs lots of work, however, you can definitely see work being done. Just from being there a week and seeing the work being done, next year this place will be very nice once the place gets cleaned up.
Best of luck Alicia and Nate and thank you both for all your hospitality during our visit. Can't wait to come back and visit when your finished with your upgrades.

We recently installed a new playground for them. The owners were the nicest people to work with. We look forward to working with them again in the future. We checked out the RV resort while we were there. Very nice place. Very well maintained.

very calm place to get away with your family, we stayed at their rental camper but they have a cabin and tent sites and plenty of space for your own campers as well, I can say not only was it a great place to get away but we had the most peaceful and relaxing time. The owners of the place are very pleasant and very quick and happy to assist you with anything they can during your stay. I can honestly say this is a great place to make your summer get away, with the fishing spot in the campground and clean bathrooms and showers as well. It’s dreadful when it’s time to leave so we will be back! 😊

Great place for camping! Close to Oak Openings, tons of bike trails and mountain bike trails, bird watching, hiking, kayaking, and even an air show on the right weekend! There’s nothing like a night at the campfire! The new owners are improving things every day!
