Cookson Bend offers a generally pleasant camping experience with friendly and helpful staff, clean bathrooms, and nice lakefront campsites. However, some areas require maintenance, including overgrown sites and trash management. While the campground has potential, improvements in facilities and cleanliness would enhance future visits.

The ants were terrible. The restrooms were clean, but really could use a coat of paint and some updating. The hosts were great--very friendly and helpful, and did a good job of hosting. This campground is very close to other amenities--a bar, a little store/restaurant, etc.

We had stayed at Cookson Bend site 53. Pad was busted up, lopsided and unlevel, not big deal whatever. Fire pit completely full of garbage, mostly beer cans and just trash. Water spigot was missing the handle and the ‘T’ plunger was completely seized where I couldn’t manually get it. Notified the host, their solution was just hook up another hose to a different site. That spigot was a water geyser the entire time. I will say though a host did lend a hose to me to mitigate the distance. Then upon checking out and leaving, dump site was completely backed up and full and we smelled it the entire time there, guess that was why. I had to take it to Loves in Vian pay $10 to use their dump site. Pretty much I’m just bent out of shape cause I paid $75 for the weekend to use a different sites water that wasn’t much better but did work and couldn’t even use the dump on site so total paid $85.

It was good except the dump station was full! Also the water was rusty. The site was a little overgrown and had some trash around it but was a good location.

Getting There
From Tahlequah, OK go 17.5 mi southeast on Highway 82. Look for sings for Tenkiller and turn right, then
go two miles west on the paved access road.

The campground is accessed via Highway 82, which is approximately 17.5 miles from Tahlequah, OK. No interstates or other major highways are mentioned within 25 miles.

General
- You must stop and register at the Gate Shack upon arrival.
- Entrance gate will be closed during this time.
- Limit 3 tents, or 1 wheeled camper and 2 tents per camp pad.
- Don't Move Firewood: Protect your forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. Visit Dontmovefirewood.org for further information.
- Pets must remain restrained on a leash or penned at all times. Pets are NOT allowed on swim beaches or in bathrooms.
- Grey water and sewage must be properly disposed of in the provided dump station receptacle. Disposal of any water or waste on the ground is prohibited.
- Group shelters are for day use only.
- Fireworks are prohibited.
- Fishing and hunting are regulated by federal and state laws.
- Campers must occupy the campsite at least once during each 24 hour period. Abandoned personal property may be subject to impoundment after 24 hours.
- Camping is limited to 14 consecutive days within any 30 day period. This applies to all members of the camping party and the camping unit.
- Fires must be contained within the fire ring or grill provided. These are NOT trash receptacles, please leave them free of food and litter upon departure.
- Campers shall keep their sites free of trash and litter during the period of occupancy and shall remove all personal equipment and clean their sites upon departure. Trash must be placed in the provided dumpsters.
