Sites were nice and shady and the overall area was quiet and clean. A friendly crew member came by each morning to clean out the bathrooms/showers and empty trash cans.

Sandy Park is praised for its peaceful camping atmosphere, well-maintained facilities, and shaded sites, making it a great spot for families and nature lovers. Many visitors appreciate the cleanliness of the bathrooms and the campground's proximity to a marina. However, some concerns were raised regarding the occasional lack of maintenance in certain areas, particularly the bathrooms, and issues with unleashed dogs.

It was a nice stay, and the campground was well maintained. I just wish they had a playground or park for the kids since there wasn’t much for them to do.

Nothing to do at this location, and to make the trip even better, I got a fireworks citation because my kids got into a few sparklers.
Here’s what I can’t understand. A major storm had just rolled through, flooding the campground and leaving tree limbs down everywhere. Instead of checking on campers to make sure families were safe, the park rangers’ only concern was writing a ticket. While they were doing that, a radio call came in about a three-boat accident, and they still chose to stand there and finish the citation.
I understand fireworks are illegal, and I’m not arguing that point. But we’re talking about sparklers—not bottle rockets or mortars. In the middle of storm damage and emergency calls, common sense should have taken priority. A warning would have accomplished the same thing while allowing the rangers to focus on what actually mattered: the safety of the people in the park.
What bothered me most was the example this set for my kids. They asked why the rangers weren’t checking on other campers after the storm or responding to the people involved in the boating accident. I didn’t have a good answer for them. Their view of park rangers changed that day—not because a law was enforced, but because it appeared that writing a ticket mattered more than helping people.
Law enforcement should be about protecting the public first and enforcing regulations with good judgment. When a campground has flooding, storm damage, and emergency calls coming in, the priority should be people—not revenue.
I hope this is a wake-up call for your department. Visitors deserve park rangers who know when to enforce the rules and when to put public safety first. Without the families who visit these parks, there wouldn’t be anyone to protect or a park to patrol.
Thanks for the ticket. It sent a message—but probably not the one you intended.

We just spent one night on our way from here to there, but the park was easily accessible, clean, and everything worked. Being right after a holiday weekend, this was a pleasant surprise. It was hot, so we appreciated all the shade. Spots all looked level, and we had the loop nearly all to ourselves.
