Little Lava Lake

Wonderful lake with gorgeous views and lots of wildlife. Site #12 is closest to the lake. Lake was a little mucky and not clear due to heat (some algae growth), but still very pleasant. Big enough lake to feel like you get some privacy. Outhouse by boat ramp was not clean (lots of flies). Outhouse further up the road in the campsite loops much cleaner though still very stinky, as outhouses are. Might be wise to keep doors of outhouses open to promote airflow during COVID. Overall lovely campground and would come again.

We love Central Oregon. This is our second year staying at this campground. The campsites are spacious and well situated to ensure privacy (as much as you can expect in a campground). It was a bit dusty, but that was probably due to heat and dry conditions. Mosquitoes -- some, but not too bothersome. The water source here is a bit iffy, but we were able to fill our water tank (ALiner popup trailer) at the Lava Lake Resort. There are vault toilets, which are getting a little old, but they are kept scrupulously clean by the camp hosts and hey -- you're camping! All in all, another great adventure!

The lake is lovely however the vault toilets were absolutely FILTHY.I have done a lot of camping and these were the worst I have ever seen by far. The doors were flimsy plywood with gaps around the edges letting in large amounts of flies.

The lake was great the sites are as good as you’d expect for dry camping. We enjoyed being just a short walk to the lake. We will come back.

I was at Little Lava twice the summer of 2019. It is a marvelous place but the drinking water was found to be contaminated on my first stay and this was not corrected by the later stay. Evidently the forest service will have to repair it and were in no hurry. By the way, the group sites are not that great and the concession wanted to charge $250 per night until it was reduced in late summer.
