It was amazing. Reserved for two nights but left before the second night due to the slater fire. The reconstructed lookout is truly incredible! It’s cozy and spotless, though keep in mind there’s no heater. The LED lighting and USB charging ports add a nice modern touch. The deck is spacious and perfect for relaxing and taking in the view. The road up is generally easy to navigate, but the final stretch is rocky and may be a bit rough for a regular car. The views of the decimated forest are still beautiful in a haunting way, especially at night under massive starry sky.

From Cave Junction, OR, travel south on Highway 199 6.4 mi to the Happy Camp Road (Forest Service Road 48). Turn left and travel 17.3 mi on Happy Camp Road (FSR 48) to the junction with Forest Road 4812. Turn left and travel 4.1 mi to the junction of Forest Road 4812-040, the road to Bolan Lake Campground. Turn left again, and travel 1.1 mi to Forest Road 535. Turn right and travel 1.6 mi to the lookout. Forest Road 535 is gated. The lookout can be accessed by passenger car, but a high clearance vehicle is recommended. Early summer access can be hampered by late season snow pack. Parking is just below the lookout.
