Campsites were clean. The pit toilet was cleaned regularly. Easy access to the river. There were many campers there with kayaks or mountain bikes. We used it as a staging site to drive to Crater Lake which is about 2 hours away.

We discovered Black Canyon Campground in 2017, when it became our home for 3 nights during the Great American Solar Eclipse. We were happy then and we were happy now!
Black Canyon Campground is an excellent place to relax in the forest, with biking for the kids, fishing on the Willamette River just steps away, and hiking on the wonderful Nature Trail. The hosts are always helpful (the first time around, our car battery died and the host came to give us a jump start).
The 2nd time around, were were in a rental RV, and though the camp doesn't have water or electrical hookups, it has an excellent pull-through spot, #3, which we were able to get.

Very nicely forested campground with lots of privacy and easy access to the river.
Train can be somewhat noisy at night. We enjoyed a day of water activities at Lowell State Park which is just a few miles down the road towards Eugene

Black Canyon is a beautiful campground on the river. Both the river sites and the interior sites are appealing, and it is wonderful to be surrounded by the forest. The campsite has always been well maintained and clean. Sadly, there has been a lot of damage in recent years from heavy winter storms, and the interpretive nature trail has fallen by the wayside, a shame as it was great when we first saw it decades ago. Still a lovely site.
