About Currier Guard Station

Historic Currier Guard Station is nestled in a scattering of fir, pine and aspen, providing an ideal setting for guests seeking relaxation and recreation in the Fremont-Winema National Forest. The guard station was named after a local ranch owner, and was constructed in 1933 as an out station for the Paisley Ranger District to house forest fire prevention and suppression crews in the field. Fire crews occupied the station seasonally until the early 1990s. Today, the cabin offers guests a secluded getaway in a landscape abundant with wildlife and nature. Although the cabin provides some amenities for those seeking a comfortable lodging experience, guests must bring several of their own supplies.

What Guests Are Saying

Currier Guard Station offers a wonderful rustic woodland experience, with a generally clean cabin and functional propane appliances. Guests appreciate the scenic, quiet environment and recommend staying multiple days to fully enjoy the area. While some minor maintenance tasks and a lack of operation instructions for gas appliances were noted, the overall charm and relaxing atmosphere make it a memorable getaway.

An excellent rustic woodland experience! The cabin is in generally good shape and reasonably clean. The kitchen window was jammed open when we arrived but we were able to get it working again. Be prepared for little projects, fixing or adjusting things, which is part of the fun.

Propane appliances all worked great. HELPFUL INFO FOR STARTING THE FURNACE IS ON THE BACK OF THE FRONT PANEL!

Super quiet, scenic, and deeply relaxing! Highly recommend staying several days.

There are no operation instructions for the gas lights or heater. I was able to get one light lit, but not the heater. The gas was off but even when turned on, it would not light. While the cabin is interesting, it sits in a heavily grazed area. These high elevation wet meadows are fragile environments like the one here but this one was heavily grazed. Since it was 45 degrees at night with no heat, I didn't stay the second night of my reservations.

Wow...what an amazing place this is. Easy to find. Road from Bly was great. Looped around to Summer lake. Road was a bit rough. Enjoyed the cows in the back field. Fortunate enough to listen to coyotes. Great views, neat old cabin and outbuildings. Everything is in working order.
Thank you for saving this guard station. Will definately stay again. One night is not enough😄

Our family of four really enjoyed this cabin, it was pretty well-maintained, and a perfect place for a short "cabin camping" trip. The only downside was that the fence was broken down by some grazing cattle (by reading the journal, I figured out it was likely that previous campers left the gate open during a day trip, came back, and some cows had gotten spooked and broke through the fence...) so there were cow pies galore. We cleaned those up and removed the needles from the roof.
