About Currier Guard Station

Historic Currier Guard Station is nestled in a scattering of fir, pine and aspen, providing an ideal setting for guests seeking relaxation and recreation in the Fremont-Winema National Forest. The guard station was named after a local ranch owner, and was constructed in 1933 as an out station for the Paisley Ranger District to house forest fire prevention and suppression crews in the field. Fire crews occupied the station seasonally until the early 1990s. Today, the cabin offers guests a secluded getaway in a landscape abundant with wildlife and nature. Although the cabin provides some amenities for those seeking a comfortable lodging experience, guests must bring several of their own supplies.

An excellent rustic woodland experience! The cabin is in generally good shape and reasonably clean. The kitchen window was jammed open when we arrived but we were able to get it working again. Be prepared for little projects, fixing or adjusting things, which is part of the fun.

Propane appliances all worked great. HELPFUL INFO FOR STARTING THE FURNACE IS ON THE BACK OF THE FRONT PANEL!

Super quiet, scenic, and deeply relaxing! Highly recommend staying several days.

Been here many times, everything was perfect; but not being able to lock the gate entrance. Second year in a row; both times had people cruising thru, but we do enjoy staying here

This very remote location is peaceful for sure. Beautiful sunrises over the forest and sunsets across the meadow. A HUGE great grey owl hunted in the meadow right in front of us and saw eagles and hawks and many other birds. The forest immediately surrounding the cabin was not burned but wide burns areas in region but you can see regeneration underway. The roads are not necessarily numbered exactly the same on all area maps and signs so keep a good eye out as you travel the area; the main roads are in very good condition. The immediate road to the cabin has some good little "divots" so go slowly (unless on mountain bike - then go faster!). Cabin's 2 propane lights dont do much so bring more lighting; stove has 3 working burners, each with one setting (high); didn't try the oven; fridge & freezer works fine; bring plates, cups, bowls, good knife, basin/bin and sponge and soap for washing (none of that per usual rental cabin supplies); no sink; plenty of basic utensils; bring your own toilet paper, paper towels. Maybe this cabin doesnt get the regular attention other rentals due to remote location (that's OK if you're prepared). We had blankets and extra sheets to cover the main room windows which have no coverings/shades; used binder clips and clothes pins to put stuff up to help darken room. Comfy beds. Yes, mice and ground squirrels get in so use your cooler or bins to store stuff.

Nice spot to land for a couple of nights. Guard station had one bunkroom with a queen bed and a twin bunkbed, chairs, table/bench, closet and propane heater. Also a kitchen with table, chairs, stove and refrigerator. One propane wall lamp in each room. Really nice, quiet place to camp. Cows grazing next door in the meadow. Saw several owls and a couple of coyotes. Good location for exploring the surrounding forest.

Peaceful setting overlooking a meadow with cows roaming around when we were there. The propane fridge, stove, heater make this an "upscale" experience. The cabin is outfitted with plenty of pots, pans, cooking utensils and silverware. I'll be back....

Loved this place! It has a gate you can close and keep the rest of the world away. We spent three days just relaxing, enjoying the sun, stars, and everything in between (the sunsets and sunrises were nice too). This will be a new tradition for us . What a good place to unwind.
