About Palisades Campground

Unlike most of the other campgrounds along the Crooked River, this 14.5-acre campground is set back some from the Lower Crooked Back Country Byway, providing some isolation. Campground facilities include fourteen mostly broad, spacious campsites, vault toilets and an accessible fishing pier. All but one of the campsites are at river level and accessed by a single-lane road.Know Before You Go:Open year-round on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations are accepted.Potable water is available year-round at the upriver Chimney Rock Campground, 0.8 miles north on State Highway 27.Cell phone service is not available in the campground.Watch for bicyclists: the section of State Highway 27 between Prineville and Bowman Dam is designated as the Crooked River Canyon Scenic Bikeway.Point of Interest:The site takes its name from nearby rock outcrops composed of basaltic lava which form the steep, formidable cliff faces across the river from the campground.

Great campground with sites close to the river, most are pull thru sites with plenty of room for and extra vehicle and space for tents as well, decent fire pits. Garbage cans are next to the restroom. First come first serve for $8/night or $4 if you have a senior passport. Limit of 14 day stay at the campground and fires are allowed in the pits only. Great scenery and fishing in the campground, open year round.

Nice spot along Crooked River. Most people seemed to be there for day use. Early June there was almost nobody else around. Mid July was much busier but by no means crowded.

A quiet little spot not too far away from home to get away.
We stayed Thursday-Sunday. The spots are far enough apart that it didn't feel crowded.
We had access to the water for kayaking and mud bugging. The water wasn't too swift which was nice for swimming too.

US Cellular had no service but an occasional message would go in or out if you were walking around.

Bathroom was decent when we got there but not so pleasant or clean when we left.

Great place to camp. Clean and well cared for. Spaces are interspersed nicely so you're not on top of your neighbors.
