About Whisky Camp Guard Station

Whisky Camp, built in the 1940s, was the summer home of a fireguard whose primary duties were to fight and prevent fires, serve as a relief lookout, and perform maintenance on phone lines and trails. Located in the Tiller Ranger District in southwestern Oregon, the cabin now offers relaxation and recreation for visitors throughout the year. Four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended for travel to this site, and guests must bring several of their own supplies. Please be aware that in winter months guests may need to snowmobile, ski or snowshoe up to five miles one-way to reach the cabin. Consider this winter travel advisory when making your reservations.

July 5-8, 2023: We really enjoyed staying at Whiskey Camp Guard Station. It is rustic, but found the propane stove and refrig working well. The signage which helped us make all the right turns onto the Forest Service roads there was great. Take a map for good measure; best is the Tiller Fire Service map. You can see one posted outside the Tiller Ranger station. Don't miss road 46, a right turn from Tiller, marked as such to get to the cabin.
We did have mice at night, but took a few mouse traps. They loved peanut butter. Too bad we had to catch them. Keep all food covered. The clear plastic storage boxes with snap down locking lids work well for all food and utensils. Nice hiking trails and road near cabin. Beaver Creek trail the best. You will see some cars, ATV's on road behind cabin; 3 in four days.
Down side are the mattresses. TERRIBLE CONDITION. Torn, dirty, smelly, mouse poop on them. Really need new ones. We took a queen air mattress for the top, and put the two beds together for the two of us. Ok, but smelled like mouse pee. Take spray bathroom cleaner for surfaces. Outhouse was good, TP had not been added for some time. Some stored in cabin and others left some.
I would return, but if price is increased with no upgrades; think not.
Very quite and restful place. Beautiful trees, spring flowers and greenery. DA

Spent 4 nights here May 5-8, 2023. The cabin & grounds were pretty filthy. Thankfully we brought cleaning supplies. Bleach spray, wipes, paper towels, air fresheners, broom etc. The fridge was OFF & had sitting water in the bottom & mildew in the freezer. After we cleaned all the surface dirt, everything was pretty amazing! FYI: I could only get 2/4 (porch side) propane lights to work, tried everything besides changing the mantles. Might want to bring extra propane light mantles. I’m not sure how often this place gets serviced but there is a broken plastic tub on the porch full of trash, I found a torn air mattress just laying on the ground which I folded placed in tub with other trash. Definitely wasn’t expecting to clean & pick up as much as we did. Also, there are mice! Make sure you secure all your food at night, we brought locking rubbermaid tubs for everything. Sure enough every night just as you start to fall asleep you hear the scurry of mice in the floors & walls. This is currently rented @ $40/night with proposed rate increase to $75. For this to occur I would hope some upgrades. The mattresses could use replacing & maybe some additional seating & furniture but this still beats the ground floor in a tent. No cell coverage. The trails are not maintained, numerous fallen trees making the trails nearly impassable.

The location was awesome. It was very quiet. The reason I left a two star review is because of there were several mouse traps in the kitchen and we encountered a mouse inside the guard station. It needs a deep cleaning.
