What Guests Are Saying
Olive Lake Campground offers a beautiful, quiet environment with great views, clean facilities, and a variety of recreational activities like fishing and kayaking. While some campers noted issues with site spacing and restroom access, many appreciated the scenic beauty and the well-maintained grounds. However, the absence of a camp host and challenges with reservations have been a concern for some visitors.

There was no camp host and the camp spaces down from us chose to park their trailers on the conjoining trail rather than in their numbered space so it was very uncomfortable.

The campground was quiet, the size of the site was great, and the view over the lake (from #27) was super. Having the pit toilet right there was very convenient too. In all it was a great campground which made for a nice stay.

We stayed over Labor Day; it was busy but we still had our own space. By Monday night we were the only ones there and got to watch a family of river otters play and fish around the lake. Clean water, no motors, quiet. Site #1 was excellent.

We love going to Olive Lake and this was our third time camping there. The lake is always beautiful and the grounds are kept up usually. The reason why I rated four instead of five stars was because there was one section of bathrooms where the men's side was locked for the entire duration of our trip. Yes, we were able to use another set of restrooms that were at a further distance away, but not having access to that restroom did reduce my rating. Other than that, we love the location and the lake and we will come back again.

Our visits to Olive Lake never disappoint, and we’ve camped here many times over the years. Kayaking and paddle boards, as well as fishing opportunities are always a favorite among our family with two teenage boys. The only thing preventing me from giving a 5-star review on our recent visit is for two reasons. A) The pit toilet nearest to our campsite did not get any supply attention during our visit, and by the end of our stay was completely out of toilet paper. Luckily, I always pack my own, so we were not in dire need. B) there happened to be a road closure in effect on one of the two ways to access the campground. I was not aware of this situation and when I checked the directions from the recreation.gov site, just in order to remind myself of the driving time to the lake, it specifically sent me in the direction of the road closure. I live in Baker City, which is roughly two hours from Olive Lake in either direction of the highway loop required to access the lake. Unfortunately, we had made it roughly 2/3 of the way around one side when we encountered the closure, which required us to backtrack around to the other side, turning a 2 hour drive into a 5 hour drive. I do understand that logistics of road closures are not always up to date, but some sort of awareness of the potential travel restrictions when one is reserving a site ahead of time would be beneficial, particularly when route options are limited. Thank you!
