About Farnsworth Cabin

Farnsworth Cabin is tucked away in the northwest portion of Pennsylvania's Allegheny National Forest. Built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the stone cabin is conveniently located 8.5 miles northwest of Sheffield. It was renovated in 2010 and now provides a variety of modern amenities, including electricity and heating, as well as telephone service, Direct TV, and internet. Visitors to the area enjoy fishing, hunting and viewing wildlife. The cabin can be accessed by vehicle, however mud during the rainy seasons can inhibit road travel. They should be aware of current weather conditions and the weather during their stay. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring some of their own supplies.

We stay here every year for our annual trout camp and it’s always a great experience. The cabin is a perfect setup for our group, plenty of space, great location, and everything we need for a long weekend.

It’s consistently clean, well kept, and exactly what we expect each time we come back. This place has become a big part of our yearly tradition and it never disappoints.

Already looking forward to next year’s trip.

Farnsworth Cabin was a big disappointment for us. The location is not as isolated as we’d hoped, with the Fishing Club on the same property, and people around all the time. The biggest issue was the mouse poops-in all the kitchen drawers and cabinets! We had to sterilize /wash the dishes and utensils before we could use them. The beds were not as uncomfortable as previous reviewers said. Be sure to bring your own pillows in addition to sheets and towels! The outside seating consisted of just one old picnic table; it would be great if a few chairs were on the lovely covered porch area.

I'm a New York city girl who has sadly never been around a campfire. And because of my multiple sclerosis, walking through the woods was not an option. My husband found the perfect place for us to enjoy the silence for a couple of days. To our amazement, without a single cloud in the sky, we got to see amazing gas clouds at night. Dream on, if you think you can count how many stars you can see up there. The shooting star was the galactic cherry on top.

Had a good time, but had to do some light housekeeping when I got there, especially the bathtub. Cabin also needed to be aired out, very musty.

Really cool cabin in the middle of no where. No AC but has heat, stove, fridge, shower, hot water, all the basics. Great place to get away for a weekend. Note: there's a mile or two of gravel road with potholes - don't bring a sports car that's low to the ground. Also the lock box with the key is by the front door
