What Guests Are Saying

Hickory Run Family Campground has received mixed reviews from campers. Many visitors, like Daniel and Michelle, praise the campground for its fun events and friendly staff, expressing excitement for future visits. However, there are significant concerns regarding management, particularly with a staff member named Charlie, whose unprofessional behavior has led to dissatisfaction among long-time campers, resulting in some groups deciding not to return. While the campground offers enjoyable activities and a beautiful setting, issues like poor shower facilities and management disputes have been highlighted as areas needing improvement.

We had the best season at this campground, it was our first season there. We loved it so much we became permanent campers.
They plan a bunch of fun events. The staff is amazing and willing to help you with whatever you need.
Can’t wait for next season for all the fun activities and the amazing people that I met there.

See you next year

Where do I even start tried to find the zero star button and the lowest it goes is 1. Me and my family sorry let me change that group of 12 different sites have came to this campground for well over 25 years and for the last 4-5 years it’s gone down hill to the point where there were barely and campers this year.
First out of the 12 campsites in our group 8 had multiple problems with there “Manager” or if you can even call Charlie a manager only thing he’s good at it picking fights and yelling at people in the most unprofessional way I’ve ever seen.
My brother had just gotten to the campsite paid for his day pass and guess you you guessed it Charlie comes racing down to my site saying that we are being charged for another site because we had set up a tent for my cousins to stay it and he only got there that day. Charlie starts yelling at my brother that he knows my brother stayed in that tent last night and that he don’t want him to lie. So my brother said “ I literally just checked in with the office and paid my day pass so no I did not and nobody has yet and Charlie proceeds to call us liars.
So my cousin gets there and pays for a separate site like we told him we were.
Then few hours later my another camper pulls in and Charlie chases him down because we forgot to hang out parking pass “our fault I admit that” non the less he says hey could you get a parking pass in the camp store, so we say it just in my camper I’ll put it on I just forgot to. And which should be good enough no.. Charlie yells and says if I tell you to do something I expect you to do it and we both tell Charlie “ what a great place to camp why wouldn’t anyone want to come here to have fun being yelled at by you we will not be back next year” and Charlie tells us we are not welcome anyways. Most unprofessional campground and so called “management” again that I have ever seen.
Again this is just a few of the things that had happened to us this passed weekend I also wanted to mention when Charlie wants to cuss in front of my 3 and 5 year old yeah we will never be back. We have at least 6 campsite people in our group not going back and it’s all because of “CHARLIE”
And if you don’t like my opinion just scroll a little he’s the most famous person on these reviews.
Couldn’t be more disappointed used to be a beautiful place and amazing staff I guess all good things come to and end when you hire a Charlie.

Seasonal campers for a year- and we've been waiting to make this for just as long.

The manager, Charlie, said that the site we wanted (for 2025) was open the last weekend in October 2024- as long as we paid him cash for the weekend. My husband ran up, got everything hooked up and got the heat turned on. As he was getting ready to head out to work, Charlie approached him and said that the previous seasonal camper wanted to use the site for the weekend and that we couldn't stay. When asked how that was even possible (since our golfcart, camper, and outside furniture, etc was already on the site) we were told that we could leave everything but could not stay.

That's when we read the reviews and realized what a mistake we made. Having already signed the contract for this season, we decided to try it out for the year.

Having the manager holler at seasonal campers at bingo (that you must pay for)- about dollar store table cloths being torn- and how he will cancel bingo completely if it happens again- was off putting to say the least. We all sat stunned at our table but not the seasonals that have been there for years. This seemed completely normal.

We watched as this man berated other guests, treated campers like trash- all while he couldn't get anyone their key cards for 3+ months (that you pay $50 for) or maintaining the roads in the campground (like you're navigating craters on the moon), or even keeping the office open during "open" hours.

Our final straw was being accused of trashing their bathrooms- especially after my bestfriend was accused of trashing it with her kids. The owners son told us that he watched her run between the bathrooms. Little did he realize- she could barely walk because she broke her tailbone the night prior. She certainly wasn't running nor was she and/or her kids trashing any bathrooms. It was so disgusting and unbelievable that we decided not to return after that weekend. We had already paid the rest of the season and haven't been back since July.

Poor management doesn't even begin to describe it.

I fully expect this man to come on here and argue and make stuff up (see his responses to other reviews. What good or even decent "manager" acts like that?!) Our rent was always paid on time, we were respectful and courteous (even when he did not deserve it), and we are feeling free!! This campground is NOT worth $5k/ year.

It's sad bc you can tell that it used to be a great spot. Longtime seasonals spoke of better days from decades ago and all seemed to largely plave blame on current management for it's current condition.

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND SANITY. There is a reason why they are the only campground in a 50 mile radius with openings. There are PLENTY of reasons- starting with the horrible management of Charlie.

We just ended our Columbus Day Weekend camping trip. We had a change in plans and needed a more local campground, HRC had spots available! Despite the rain and wind, we had a great weekend!
The fall fest and hayride were both so fun and our toddler loved all of the activity tables. She loved looking at the horses and swinging on the swings.
The campground is beautiful .. it’s a place for good old fashioned camping!
We will definitely be back next year!

NO Shower pressure at all.
When we got there it was fantastic. Campsite was nice with electricity and water (we were in a tent). The people were great, had a fun craft time and fishing. But when it came time to take a shower, (prefacing that we knew we had to use quarters to even use the shower), you might want to use at least $1 worth for 8 minutes or more because you get nothing but little droplets. I might as well had used the hose because it had more pressure than any shower. There was only one that my husband said actually worked but it was always taken (on the men’s side, also being 1 of 6 showers total). Actually 1 of the showers said “out of order”. And I noticed the other side of the campground’s shower area was still out of order. So if you stay further away you’d need to drive to the shower. So if I stay there again, I’m gonna have an rv or not staying again. And yes I did let them know at the front desk.
