About Kellettville Recreation Area (PA)

Half of Forest County, where Tionesta Lake is located, is preserved as public lands. The region is known as one of Pennsylvania's best big game regions and is home to a remarkable variety of wildlife. Campers come to the Kellettville Recreation Area Campground to enjoy the forested area along Tionesta Creek. The area is ideal for fishing, hunting as well as scenic hiking. Tionesta is a culturally rich region with a long history. The Seneca Indian tribe named this area "where the water separates the land." Nearly a century ago, narrow gauge railways dotted the surrounding countryside, hauling out virgin timber from the hillsides.

We enjoyed some great weather for the time of year, but the restrooms and dump station were closed. Also noticed that even though the campground was booked solid for the weekend, there were many spaces that were open. The camp host was not present.

It was a perfect last minute getaway for us. The site had enough room for me, my husband and our dog. Really nice picnic table and bathrooms were cleaner than I expected. There is a fantastic restaurant down the road if you want to visit it, it’s called Flying W Restaurant. The only thing I wish the campsite had was more privacy between sites.

My family and I absolutely love this location. My grandchdren love being so close to the water for fishing and swimming. With that said,, when I first started coming here ,there was water spigots available in three different locations, now there is no potable water available, nor is there a water spigot available to fill your fresh water tank in the camper.
It would be great if the Army Corp of Engineers would invest the effort into this campground as they do some of the more up to date campgrounds under their jurisdiction..
I would like to see the campsites mowed more on a regular basis.
I would like to see potable water and a couple of spigots available to access said water.
I would like to see the the installation of a single shower stall in the male and female restrooms.
This campground is loved by those who visit, it's a real shame that it is not as we maintained as it could, or should be.
When the government allowed for the Corp to take over waterways for preservation and protection that should as well include the surrounding area along these waterways as well. I have camped on the Tionesta River since youth when camping was a first come, first serve basis, no fees, you could camp all summer in the same camping spot...which we did. Most people brought their own lawns mowers to keep their sites mowed.
I just see so much potential for this 20 site campground if time and love were invested.
It just saddens me that it's a job to take take care of it, not a love for the campground.

Nice stars from the parking lot: fully-detailed Milky Way, thousands of stars visible after dark, many sporadic meteors, SQM reading 21.5.
An isolated house on a bluff has an overpowered spotlight that can be seen throughout the whole valley.
