About Outflow Recreation Area (PA)

Half of Forest County, where Tionesta Lake is located, is preserved as public lands. The region is known as one of Pennsylvania's best big game regions and is home to a remarkable variety of wildlife. Campers come to the Outflow Recreation Area Campground to enjoy the forested area along Tionesta Creek. The area is ideal for fishing, hunting as well as scenic hiking. Tionesta is a culturally rich region with a long history. The Seneca Indian tribe named this area "where the water separates the land." Nearly a century ago, narrow gauge railways dotted the surrounding countryside, hauling out virgin timber from the hillsides.

Summary

AI generated

The Outflow Recreation Area offers a peaceful and quiet camping experience, with friendly hosts and well-maintained campsites. Visitors appreciate the beautiful scenery and spacious tent sites, especially during week-long stays. However, some facilities, particularly the restrooms and showers, need significant improvements, and the access road has potholes that could be better maintained.

It's a lovely area and I will return to Outflow. But the bathroom needs some serious attention. It was always clean, no issues there. But it is very old and worn out. Really need new facilities.

Site locations on website do not match actual location in campground. Not a huge problem for me but could be for others.

The park is awesome and host was very friendly. The road in could use some work. This particular park would benefit if the camping rates were lower during the week to entice people to camp during the week. The little town of tionesta could benefit also if more people camped during the week.

The primitive tent sites in the Peter's Run area of the Outflow Campground are known habitats for Synchronous Firefly mating displays during the month of June and early July. If you refrain from using bright lights and lanterns, and keep your campfires low and purposeful, you would be amazed at the firefly displays that occur in these sites after 10 pm on warm nights. Let your eyes adjust to the darkness naturally, so you can keep a look out on the ground for glowing larvae, pupae and females. Better yet, keep the lights off year-round, and you will encourage and benefit other nocturnal creatures. Lights OUT For Lightning Bugs! Check out Pafireflyevents.org/lights-out-for-lightning-bugs for more information on how to protect and conserve fireflies in Pennsylvania.

Campground was very quiet. Restroom was close to our campsite and was clean. We can’t wait to go back. Our site was very well shaded in the daytime. Site was also a very nice size.

Watch for low power lines along Outflow Road driving into Outflow campground, also the road gettings really rough with potholes. visit the small towns in the area. Cell was spotty at times being down in the valley.
