We booked Willow Grove Campground for our family of 14 (8 adults and 6 kids under 7). We reserved 3 sites, 76, 78 & 82 with one family at each and chose them mainly because they were close to the playground.
Normally playgrounds aren’t a big factor for us because they’re usually too far from campsites to use often, but this setup ended up being the best part of the campground. The kids could safely walk over while we still kept an eye on them from camp.
Thursday night, being the only tent campers there, we quickly realized this isn’t the traditional campground experience we’re used to. This is definitely more of an RV and boating destination. I knew there was a marina but didn’t expect almost everyone to be in RVs. No judgment—everyone camps differently. Tent camping is just our affordable family retreat.
One unexpected perk was that hardly anyone used the bathhouse or swimming area, so we had both mostly to ourselves. The bathhouses were ventilated but still very hot and humid. Good water pressure and hot water are always a plus!
My sister packed a lot of activities for the kids but ended up not needing much because they stayed entertained together and at the playground.
A couple downsides: one campsite, 76 had no shade coverage and backed up almost directly to the site next to it. I was uncomfortable with the water spigot and electrical outlet being located side by side.
The entrance attendant was very friendly, but when the booth wasn’t staffed the gates stayed down. After a marina trip for ice, we got stuck waiting in a long line of arrivals Friday afternoon.
Overall, we had a good time because of our family and setup, but we probably won’t return. The drive isn’t worth it for us when there are closer campgrounds that better fit our style of camping.

The staff were friendly. The camp ground was clean and the view of the water was nice. I liked the boat and water access areas.

We love Willow Grove. The sites and grounds are well maintained. The lake access is wonderful and we really enjoy Dale Hollow. The only issue we had with this stay was the bath house in our loop (we were on site 30) had some sort of drainage issue in the showers. That particular bath house could use some attention for the drainage issue, a constant sewer smell, and the hand dryers didn’t work in the women’s side.

Loved the campground. Very quiet and peaceful. Scenery was great. Sites were level and plenty of room. Look forward to a return trip.
