We tent camped here over 4th of July weekend and had a great time. There was so much to do with the lake and hiking trails. We will definitely camp here for many years to come!

Been going to this campground for many years. It has declined in upkeep possibly because of budget cuts. Upgrades have not been made for sometime. Love the location, the spaces and the Camp Hosts. The lake is in really bad shape. We had many good times there and was safe for our children. It has not been kept up to standards.

The campground was clean, unlike the road and overlooks getting to the campground. I have traveled all over the United States and have never seen so much trash alongside a road, especially in one of our national parks and forest's. The overlooks were heavily covered in graffiti and a memorial was disfaced. So sad to see our land like this.
Possitive: the campsites were well spaced apart, beautiful hike to Benton Falls. Gorgeous views from overlooks.
Negative: dump station was located down a curvy steep road. Would have had to do a u turn on a steep incline. Not possible with a larger RV.
Also, there are no campsites on the "7" acre lake. (More like a small pond)
Zero cell coverage at campsite. Had to go to overlooks to use phone.

We love Chilhowee Campground. I've been bringing my son camping here for years and 2 years ago started bringing a group of friends. it's definitely the favorite for all of us with so much for the kids to do between hiking, exploring, fishing and swimming. love the beauty and the spaciousness of the tent camping sites on Loop A.

Campsite was wonderful. Lovely trails around the little lake/pond and easy access to the Ocoee River for awesome rafting. Showers were clean and efficient. Even one of the rainy days was great because as the storm approached from the west we were able to look DOWN on the approaching storm from one of the observation pullouts on the access road just outside the Park entrance. Only complaint was we couldn't find anyone selling firewood on top of the mountain. Might be nice to have one of the hosts take care of that.

The campground is located on FDR 77/Oswald Dome Road.
Be Aware; Do not use GPS directions: GPS coordinates will direct you up Benton Springs Rd. This route is not recommended. We recommend using Forest Service Road 77 to reach the recreation area. It's important to note, this facility requires driving 7 miles up to Chilhowee Campground on a narrow, winding road. Do not use the Benton Springs Access Road to the campground as this is an unpaved and dangerous road for RVs. Inexperienced RV drivers may have difficulties getting to and around the site.
From Highway 64/411 intersection travel east 7 miles, turn onto Forest Road 77, drive 7.5 miles to campground/recreation area. Do not use Benton Springs Road for access to the mountain.
Chilhowee Campground is accessible via Highway 64/411, located approximately 7 miles from the campground. From the highway, travelers should turn onto Forest Road 77 to reach the campground.
Elevation: 638 feet
17 mi drive to downtown Benton (about 29 min)

General
- Be Aware! Do not use GPS directions - GPS coordinates will direct you up Benton Springs Rd. This route is not recommended. We recommend using Forest Service Road 77 to reach the recreation area. It's important to note, this facility requires driving 7 miles up to Chilhowee Campground on a narrow, winding road. Do not use the Benton Springs Access Road to the campground as this is an unpaved and dangerous road for RVs. Inexperienced RV drivers may have difficulties getting to and around the site.
- The campground is located on FDR 77/Oswald Dome Road.
- Campfires are permitted in designated fire rings only.
- Do not leave fires unattended. They will be extinguished.
- Discharging firearms and fireworks is prohibited.
- Pets must be on a leash and are not allowed on the beach.
- No lifeguards on duty; swim at your own risk.
- Alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
- The nearest restaurants and/or stores for purchasing supplies are about 14 miles from the campground.
- Campground hosts are on site.
- Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more.
- Be Bear Wise: Never leave food out on tables or in the open. Store unattended food in bear-resistant containers, in a vehicle in solid non-pliable material, or suspend food at least ten feet off the ground. Remember to use the bear resistant trash receptacles provided at this facility.
