Our group of 11 had a fantastic stay at group site 2. We loved the location - close to the bathrooms (but not too close - just across the street!), close to the stream, and far enough away from the other group sites that it felt like a private setup most of the time. We thought the site was perfect and had lots of flat areas to set up our tents, as well as enough well-positioned trees to set up several hammocks. The site was clean and well maintained. We had turkey visitors daily, and 7am wake up calls from our crow friends. We did have a large black bear make its way through our site one day, but as we had followed protocol and put away all smellables each time we were done cooking/eating - it paid us no mind and continued on its way. Park rangers and staff were friendly and helpful. Bathrooms collected bug friends each day, but each morning the bathrooms were cleaned out. We did see a HUGE spider under one of the toilets - so I suggest checking before you sit down. We had zero service (att, Verizon, t-mobile), but were able to connect to satellite to send text messages, when needed. Highly recommend biking the loop - we caught the last Wednesday of the season, and it was amazing. We can’t wait to come back.

Our trip was great! We really enjoyed the shelter because it rained. This is a wonderful campground with GREAT staff of the entrance. We are always happy to return.

From Maryville, TN: Take U.S. 321 North (you'll actually be driving south!) from Maryville to Townsend, TN (about 22 miles). At the traffic light in Townsend, continue straight on TN 73 and follow signs to Cades Cove.
From Pigeon Forge, TN take US 321 South (you'll be driving westerly) to Townsend, TN. Turn left (south) at Townsend onto TN 73. Follow signs to Cades Cove.

Check in time

- Check-in with campground staff upon arrival to complete your reservation; late arrivals must check in the next day.
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
Vehicles & parking
- A valid parking tag is required for vehicles parked over 15 minutes in the park, except at designated campsites.
Safety & rules
- Be aware of bear activity and follow safety practices for bear encounters.
- Generators are not allowed in group camps.
Wildlife & food storage
- Store all food and scented items properly to avoid bear encounters and potential fines.
- Promptly dispose of garbage in bear-proof dumpsters as this rule is strictly enforced.
Site types & loops
- Reservations are required for group camps, which are tent-only; no RVs or pop-ups allowed.
Site capacity
- Group sites require a minimum of 7 people, with a maximum capacity of 15 to 30, and a stay limit of 14 consecutive days.
Utilities
- The park has no showers or utility hook-ups; some group sites are accessible.
Fires & fuel
- Fires are allowed only in designated fire rings using approved firewood; collection of dead wood is allowed.
- Heat-treated firewood is available from vendors near the park; see firewoodscout.org for details.
Local regulations
- Fishing in the park requires a Tennessee or North Carolina fishing license, with special regulations.
- From the first Wednesday in May to the last Wednesday in September, no motorized vehicles are allowed in Cades Cove Loop from sunset Tuesday to sunrise Thursday.
Pets
- Pets are allowed but must be leashed and cannot be left unattended; they are not allowed on trails.
Cancellation policy
- Cancelling a group overnight reservation less than 14 days in advance incurs a $10 service fee and forfeits the first night's fee.
