About Rock Creek Recreation Area (Cherokee National Forest, TN)

Rock Creek Recreation Area is named for the small creek that runs alongside this recreation site. The facilities, creek-fed concrete pond and bathhouse were originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the early 1930s. It is located just outside the town of Erwin, TN at an elevation of 2.3 ft - a welcome respite from the summer heat. Be Bear Wise: Food storage compliance is strictly enforced. Store all food and trash in hard-sided containers and vehicles while not in use. Never have attractants in your tent. Violations of the food storage order are ticketable offenses and subject to fines. Food and trash left unattended will be impounded by campground staff.

Campground well maintained and restrooms exceptionally clean. For the most part, quiet (people who brought their dogs, but not too bad). Our site was very shady on days in the 90's. One of our favorite places to stay, typically multiple times each year. Listened to the whippoorwills at night.

Loop C bathroom was full of bugs. The sink and shower floor were covered with them obviously hadn’t been cleaned in a while. Reservation signs were not updated

We were on B16. There had been some drainage work done and the site was left in poor condition. The ground was soft which sank under tire pressure. They left large pieces of rock and drain piping out of the ground. They had torn out the boarding in places and just left a piles up mess. Hopefully, they are not through and will return to correct these concerns. Even with all this, we were able to work around it and our stay was enjoyable.

Had a great time. Kids enjoyed it. Movie night on Saturday was a big surprise-didn't see it advertised. Another kid told our grandson and off we went. The spring fed pool was clean and extremely cold. Only the adults seemed to notice.
Erwin is just 10 minutes away and worth the visit. Several rafting groups are also less than 20 minutes away. Family rafting is a must!
Park is clean and there is also a small playground for younger children.
