What Guests Are Saying
Look Rock Campground offers a peaceful and clean camping experience with well-maintained facilities and friendly hosts. Many visitors appreciate the availability of electric and water hookups at select sites, as well as the quiet atmosphere and opportunities for wildlife sightings, including bears. However, some amenities, like showers and reliable cell service, are lacking, and noise from nearby traffic can be a concern for some campers. Overall, it is a lovely spot for those seeking a tranquil getaway in nature.

The campground as a whole seems nicely redone. It was closed for almost a decade, so it's nice to see it open again. Our main issue was nothing the campground itself did wrong, but moreso that it seems to cater to the type of camping that we aren't really interested in. We usually try to find dispersed camping in the National Forest system as opposed to the more crowded/commercialized campgrounds in the National Parks. Look Rock Campground definitely falls into the latter category. Sitting along the pretty heavily traveled (at least during Summer holidays) Foothills Parkway doesn't help with the solitude, and the majority of sites are close enough together that it's pretty apparent the design was intended for people to sort of just park their RV or travel trailer and then disappear inside for the duration. Not a lot of "camping" ambience to be had. I suppose this isn't exactly a bad thing, but it's just not for us. That said, if you're looking for a nicely maintained National Park campground with electric, water, and some of the best parking spaces for your summer house on wheels, this might be right up your alley.
Also, fair warning, Site 43 doesn't have a tent pad, nor does it have any sort of reasonable way to utilize your aforementioned RV, or even a small trailer. It's essentially two parking spaces, situated side-by-side. There wasn't enough space to park our little 12 ft offroad trailer and our Grand Cherokee without unhooking and parking next to each other. Just a heads up for the next person.

Very quiet and not very busy. Site had electric and water, which was nice because there are no showers. There are some nice hikes nearby, and beautiful sunsets just down the road about three miles. Staff were friendly and checkin was easy. Wastewater dump was a bit tricky as it is in the middle of the campground and requires you to go around the loop again if you are in any site beyond 37. Also, the waste dump location is slanted the wrong way so we had to put some wood under our tires to get black water to fully dump. Otherwise, a great stay. This is a pretty good drive to the Smoky Mountain main attractions, so plan on spending over an hour each way in the car to get to things like Clingman's Dome or Cade's Cove. But it is a beautiful drive.

Look Rock is a nice campground that recently reopened after being closed for nine years. Site (26) was level, spacious and fit my 16" NuCamp Tab. Before considering sites 23 - 26, note a private home is built behind them.
FYI for those in a camper or RV, this campground has a dumpstation on-site, and ten sites have 50 amp connections, if you need that type of hook up.
Location: Look Rock is a short walk to Look Rock Tower (similar to Clingmans Dome tower) along Foothills Parkway. It's a short drive (25 min) into Townsend via Foothills Parkway. If Elkmont and Cades Cove are booked, check this campground for sites.
The Camp Host was great! Very professional and courteous. She took the time to tell me about the area and places I might want to check out.

This campground was amazing! Great views up and down Foothills parkway. Note if you are using GPS to get there - do not take Happy Valley road especially if you are pulling a camper.
The camp host (Debbie) was so very nice and helpful. We will be back to visit again and will definitely stay here!

Site 67 is extremely unlevel. The tongue of our camper had to be 27” off the ground to level. And it was 8” unlevel from side to side. Really sad consider this was closed for well over 10 years and they just repaved it last year or so. Zero concern leveling the sites was put into this project. And many of the step leading to the fire rings is actually on the drivers side of the camper or under the rear of the camper.
The campground hosts are always super friendly and helpful. It’s a great location and some of the site have electric and water.
