I really liked the park. Its remoteness was not something we were used to but we made it work. Our larders were bare by the end of our stay. Now about the white dogs that are roaming the park....not good...Especially since the hostie decided my dog should be on a six foot leash in my site/big despite the fact that we were always out there with her and despite these dogs (who knows their rabies status) roaming freely. No one seems to care that they are roaming. Someone needs to take them to a shelter...all three of them) to get fostered or adopted. We were not out a lot during the day...just short trips but I rarely saw the host (in January). I figured his only job was to be a warm body/in his rig and to put tags on the posts. Other than that we didn't see him do much of anything. We have volunteered and we were always busy during our work time...cleaning sites, fire rings, the park, and checking restrooms and cleaning them. I guess it is hard getting hosties there due to remoteness.

Experiencing Big Bend was a lifetime goal. I'm grateful to those who established and now care for this unique part of Texas.
The majestic scenery was all I had hoped.

The staff at Panther Junction seemed utterly overwhelmed.
Perhaps the staff including volunteers could have training in both completing permits and collecting entrance fees.
One clerk kept telling people he could not help them because he only sells books.

I was bounced from line to line 5 separate times. For very near a full hour. 8:25AM-9:20AM

We stayed at Rio Grande Village in late January and the weather was very mild. (Some cold nights, but beautiful sunny days). The restrooms are clean and well maintained and we were grateful for the coin-operated showers in the shop just down the road. It was incredibly windy the first day we got there. It settled by the next day, but come prepared to tie or weigh your belongings down, or secured them in sturdy containers.

The park is huge! And very diverse. We drove to Terlingua and had a great lunch. Another day we drove to Chisos and enjoyed the rich forest there with pine trees. We hiked to the Rio Grand from camp. Only wish we could of taken our dogs on hikes.

Awesome place. So friendly. Great hiking trails. We loved the sites in Rio Grande Village (non-electric) as spacing and size was wonderful.
Easy access to Mexico at Boquilles Port of Entry.
We want to return to this village. Wonderful people. My husband and I rode a horse to the village and back to the river when done visiting.
The visitor centers at Panther and Rio Grande Village answered all questions. Very helpful.
We are looking forward to return to explore the hot springs and return to Mexico again. Thank you for a spectacular time.

We had no issues with our stay at Big Bend. Everything related to information provided on the NP site was correct. Our site was identified for us, the dump and water station was easily accessible. All information provided locally and by the staff was extremely helpful.
