Recommend trying to reserve a campsite with a shade awning. That southwest Texas sun is hot in the afternoon!

Clean park, poor cell service at the lodge causes a difficult reservation while onsite........

Absolutely loved it, real camping in the back with no RVs. Much cooler than Rio Grande Village and peaceful, lots of flora and fauna. Thank you Big Bend and NPS Rangers.

Beautiful camp location in Chisos Basin. Kim was an excellent campground host and the rangers at the trailhead and in the visitor center were really helpful! Probably one of the most beautiful hikes I’ve ever been on!

Great location, very well maintained, enjoyed meeting George, the campground host. Only downside was the arrival of five young men very late on my third night there. They were very noisy and seemed completely unaware that they were disturbing people. I asked them to quiet down and they did but two of then were very noisy at 1 AM the next morning requiring me to to yell at them. I did mention this to the host, not sure if they behaved the next night as I was leaving. Overall a great place to stay with access to great hikes.

Camp Host George was extremely helpful, friendly and great with hike recommendations and information about the park. The campsite had a great view and the bathroom was clean and easy to access from our site. I recommend an early start to anyone heading up the mountain in search of the Colima warbler (go the Pinnacles way, we did Laguna Meadows up and it took us longer to get to the Boot Canyon than we anticipated, despite a 5:20 AM start). Birding down in the Rio Grande Village was great when the wind was blowing and it wasn't too hot. Dugout Wells, Sam Nail Ranch and Santa Elena Canyon areas are all great for birding as well.

Always a great time in the basin. Rangers and camp hosts are always super helpful and knowledgeable. If you know this place then you know it’s very minimal as far as amenities come, but that’s kind of the point.
Anyways, the campground is pretty dense with sites, so if you arrive late at night, please try to keep the noise down to be courteous to those who are already sleeping. It’s very quiet so any noise will carry a good ways!
