We actually stayed here for a week with a group and added an extra night to spend just with the family. On day one, we went to take a shower and found that there were ants coming out of the shower spraying on us in two of the 3 showers we used. We were bitten several times. In addition, the time we stayed, a tropical storm was making its way through. Thankfully, it didn't hit us hard but we had an exposed electrical box at our site that we needed to call and get covered again for safety. When we called about the electric and ants, the man who answered seemed almost frustrated that we called and did not have any concern for the shower situation and just said he would get someone to try to fix the box. He was rude in his tone and short in his responses and didn't want to take much time to listen and rushed me off of the phone. The electric part was taken care of the following day, thankfully, but the experience was not the best and the male receptionist DEF needs training on customer service. He did not sound like a young man, so there isn't any reason for it. We have stayed here several times, and other than bathrooms not being cleaned daily or even every other day, this was by far the worst one.
Our group encountered snakes in 2 of their cabins. We are in the woods, so this wasn’t as big of a deal bc this is their home, too, but electrical safety and issues inside the water system are things that should be prioritized.

It was very quite, there wasn't many campers. The site was nice but the RV pad could use some repairs. It was mowed before we got there and that was nice. Over hall we had a pleasant stay.

I love Hanks Creek. I have stayed there year after year for many years. It is sad to see the neglect. The Corp is no longer keeping up with the park. There are many choice spots that have not been repaired or are not usable now. The gate is no longer monitored as it once was. The gate is no longer operational. Thus anyone can just drive in day or night with no checks. While I did not fear for my safety I was more concerned with the lack of security at the gate.

The water lake level was too leave our boat on the shore near campsite . There has been no progress to re-open the damaged campsites from 2 years ago. The boat ramp for the camping area is still closed. No progress has been made to re-open the boat ramp. We do camp in many different parks and the Corps of Engineers are doing a terrible job maintaining Hanks Creek Park, compared to the other parks that we visit.

Getting There
From Zavalla, TX, take State Hwy 147 northeast for 1/4 mi, then turn
north on FM 2109, go 8 mi to FM 2801. Turn right (east) on FM 2801 and go 2 mi to the park entrance. Follow signs into the campground.
Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
