About Hanks Creek

Hanks Creek Park has something for everyone, with plenty of water sports on Sam Rayburn Reservoir and volleyball, mountain biking, wild life viewing and birding for those who want to stay on shore. The Red-cockaded woodpecker, an endangered species, is found throughout the forest surrounding the reservoir. The bird makes its home by pecking cavities in large, living pine trees.

What Guests Are Saying

Hanks Creek campground is well-kept and offers a peaceful atmosphere, with clean sites and decent facilities, making it a great spot for relaxation and outdoor activities. Many campers enjoyed the beautiful views of the lake and appreciated the friendly park hosts. However, some areas are in need of maintenance and updates, particularly the boat ramps and restroom facilities, which have been affected by recent flooding and storms.

I spent the 3 or 4 nights camping here, without cell phone service...lived the quiet of the section I was in Fed the native cats, whom Im guessing got lost from previous campers who stayed there. About the only down fall was that the last night I was there, there was late comers who set up camp and had their music blasting all night and I do mean all night from even during the quiet hours...woke me up several times during the night with them screaming and hollering and having fun to their loud music...

Hanks, Creek, Park, Campground, like other federal camp grounds, requires online registration. However, if you try to register at the site for a drop in, you cannot because there is no cell phone service or Internet. The phone on the booth is in operable. If you can register by going back toward town (10 mi) you can then get to the gate code and use the camp. Once in the camp is exceptionally good and well-maintained. COE, needs to fix the system for drop in campers!

  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.

    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
