We love this park. Always clean and quite at night. We go fishing early in the morning and go to bed early.

Our kick-off of the 2024 camping season took us to a new-to-us campground, Cagle Recreation Area. It is close to home, located on the northern edge of Lake Conroe, Texas. The campground is about seven miles off of Interstate 45, about half-way between Conroe and Huntsville, Texas. The official address is New Waverly, but for most amenities you’ll need to venture into Huntsville or Conroe, both about 20 minutes away.
The National Forest Service manages the campground and surrounding Sam Houston National Forest. The campground is relatively small, with two compact loops of rv/travel trailer camping sites, with a total of 47 back-in, asphalt-paved, full hookup sites. The sites come in a variety of lengths, with most accommodating larger rigs. Weekends are fairly busy. Throughout the week, especially during school times, you’ll likely find openings at this campground.
Nestled amongst the tall pines of the forest, you’ll find plenty of shade at most sites. The amenities in the campground include three bath houses, a dual-lane boat ramp and dock, along with overflow parking areas with a few day-use picnic areas. There are no playground areas. However, there are a number of walking trails, along the lake frontage and through the forest around the campground. The trails provide easy access for fishing along the banks of the lake, or for launching kayaks/canoes. By the way, the fishing was excellent just from the bank, with catfish, hybrid striper, drum, and bluegill plentiful while we were there.
Our spot, number 32, provided easy access to the lake, just a few steps behind the campsite. Our location offered a great observation point for wonderful sunset views over the lake, too. The campsite picnic tables and fire rings are in good condition. A level designated tent pad is provided at each campsite, too.

Not sure how to explain. It is a beautiful, well kept, quiet, heavily wooded, campground with easy walk access to lake Conroe. I will be back.

We've stayed at Cagle twice now and love it. We've stayed in both loops. First visit we drove around and noted what we thought would be great campsites. We had heavy rains the first night we were visiting on our second stay, took another walk around and noted again which sites to avoid if there is bad weather. There were a few sites that were rather flooded (including the tent pad).
Probably shouldn't share, but here are what we feel are the best site (including driest in bad weather) 8, 9, 14, 16, 46, 42, 40, 30 and 31.
Park hosts were really friendly and efficient. The park itself is very quiet and clean, including the restrooms. And all the sites have full hook ups, picnic tables, tent pad and a fire pit.
Have fun!
