The campsite is primitive to say the least., but There is a bathroom with running water for personal hygiene. The real plus is you are in the middle of nowhere, excellent trails for hiking, and out standing 4 wheel park roads for amazing vistas. A little off the beaten trail, but worth the effort. Good luck and stay safe.

We got there late at night so it was hard to tell where to camp. It was a beautiful place but not a whole lot of folks. I think only one other camper. The only down fall is that the camp sites are away from the parking lot. If you could drive up it would be nice but I understand. Overall nice

Awesome part of the park with Amazing Hiking and views great place to base camp for some backcountry camping and Hiking. Well worth it.

We had a party of three staying two nights in late June. We saw three beautiful black bears during our stay. The amenities were clean and it was awesome to have running water. Beautiful part of the Guadalupe National forest!

Had a nice tent campsite with shade, but most sites are fully exposed. Not sure why they are so close together either.
We were there mid June and lucked out with the weather. There was one other RV in the park, and a day visitor that we saw. You really feel it's remote, especially without cellular service. The facilities were good, and the hikes were nice. Did not see a ranger the 2 days/nights we were there. Wifi at the ranger station didn't work. Liked the overall experience, but you need to come prepared to be self-reliant.

We really enjoyed our stay at the campground. It was clean, private, and so relaxing and peaceful. We were pleasantly surprised to find water and a friendly office where I could stamp my "passport!"

I missed the description that the tent sites were all walk-in sites. I sleep in my SUV but was not allowed to do so except in the RV area, which I did not sign up for. I do not like RV areas because I don't want to listen to generator noise.
There was no ranger or camp host around to ask.

I’ve never witnessed a sky so beautiful at night. The mountains around the campsite are breathtaking and block out outside light. It’s off the grid so be prepared before you go but so awesome I will have to go back. The trails provide exceptional views.

From Carlsbad NM to the Dog Canyon area of Guadalupe Mountains National Park, take US Hwy 285 north to NM Hwy 137 and turn south. Travel (62 miles/100 km) to Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Dog Canyon entrance.
From the Pine Springs Visitor Center to Dog Canyon, take US Hwy 62/180 east. Once you enter New Mexico, travel 25 miles (40 km) and turn left onto County Road 408 (Dark Canyon road). Travel approximately 23 miles (27 km) to the intersection with NM Hwy 137/Queen Hwy, turn left/south. Follow Queen Hwy 25 miles (40 km) to the Dog Canyon entrance. The drive time between Dog Canyon Campground and Pine Springs Campground is 2 hours.
Use extreme caution! This is open rangeland, cattle are frequently on the roadway.
