Dog Canyon Campground

A pretty canyon with a pleasant ranger the time that I was there. Level tent platforms and a clean bathroom. Nice outdoor sink for the dishes. Big nice trails that start closely. I loved the little nature trail next to the campground. All around a lovely place, but fill up your car in Carlsbad. I'm not sure that there is closer gas. You don't want to run out before you get back.

Beautiful setting for watching sunrises and sunsets. Everything is nice and clean and I loved the wind/rain shelters for tent campers. Excellent value too. Thank you.

I love GUMO, and have for 30+ years. It’s kind of a shame that so many have discovered it recently. Regardless, it’s a wonderful park, and still much less crowded than other parks within a day or two drive.
Dog Canyon this trip. Rangers/host Brian, Seven and David were friendly, professional and helpful. This is a different side of the park, a bit more austere than the Ponderosa and Douglas fir accessible from Pine Springs. Beautiful none the less, and much less crowded.
Lost Peak is a great hike & a great place to watch a sunset. Take a headlamp & hike back in the dark. It’s wonderful.

Props to two Rangers on the Pine Springs side; LE Ranger Brian Cohane and park fixture Michael Haynie. Wonderful assets to the NPS and always a pleasure to catch up with. A couple of really good guys and equally concerned with resource protection and visitor enjoyment.

Just as remote and primitive as you would have hoped. After backpacking up from Pine Springs, our group stopped here for an unplanned stay (thanks to online reservations!). However, we stayed in front of the camp office for a couple of hours and several others showed up only to be confused that the camp hosts were gone and no one was there to direct them or their questions. So it’s a pretty “find your own info” kind of spot.
