A quiet, end-of-the-road campground. A great place to stage for a backcountry trip. No fires allowed, even charcoal. Gas stoves are OK. Running water is available. Wifi is available at the ranger station, about a three minute walk. Lots of birds and deer. Be prepared. The nearest gas is in Carlsbad or White City, nearly 70 miles away. Likewise, no other amenities near by. Get away from it all!

The federal government has fifty bazillion trillion acres of land. Why do I need to be 13.5 feet away from all of my tent neighbors at night? The campground was tiny. What does it cost to raze a spot? Let's do that. Otherwise, Dog Canyon was great.

If you can, avoid Tent sites #1 and #2. While scenic, their close proximity to the bathroom detracts from being in the great out of doors. Otherwise, it's a great campground.

Someone was in my campsite! I reserved ahead of time, and when I arrived, two people were already camped in my site. It was after the visitor center and ranger station were closed for the evening so we had to sort it out. Obviously we didn't have service. They thought all the sites were walk-in and up for grabs. Preventing these miscommunications in the future would be greatly appreciated! Nobody likes these types of confrontations, especially when it means one party may not have a place to sleep that night. Thanks!

Well-marked route from White's city on Hwy 62. Great tent site and access to restroom and water spigot for washing with trash dumpster nearby. Trail heads are short distance from campsite. Great quiet area!
