My husband and I have a small travel trailer and we drove out there not the best road for an RV lots of cattle guards that are sinking it is a 60 mile trip one way . The desolation and vastness was beautiful . We were very underwhelmed with the sites 5 of them all lined up no more than 10ft apart no trees no plants no nothing all that vast space and they put you in a tiny area might as well been in a parking lot and nothing to do but hike , hike and hike ; no lake ; river water hole; nothing but very long trail hikes at high altitude and a 60 mile rough ride out . So it’s for hiking which is fine but my goodness fix the Camping part it’s a National Park maybe more people would go

It's a journey to get to this side of the park, but it's worth it. The campground is very nice, and a great spot to anchor hiking, stargazing, etc. Bring everything you need with you!

The drive to the campground is beautiful Stargazing was phenomenal.
Site and facilities well-maintained. It's very isolated so be comfortable with that.

From Carlsbad NM to the Dog Canyon area of Guadalupe Mountains National Park, take US Hwy 285 north to NM Hwy 137 and turn south. Travel (62 miles/100 km) to Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Dog Canyon entrance.
From the Pine Springs Visitor Center to Dog Canyon, take US Hwy 62/180 east. Once you enter New Mexico, travel 25 miles (40 km) and turn left onto County Road 408 (Dark Canyon road). Travel approximately 23 miles (27 km) to the intersection with NM Hwy 137/Queen Hwy, turn left/south. Follow Queen Hwy 25 miles (40 km) to the Dog Canyon entrance. The drive time between Dog Canyon Campground and Pine Springs Campground is 2 hours.
Use extreme caution! This is open rangeland, cattle are frequently on the roadway.
