It's a small campground but clean and it does have a bathroom. The trails are quite difficult but very rewarding with amazing views in every direction. I did the Brush Mountain to Marcus campground to Tejas trail loop, starting and returning to Dog Canyon. Download Alltrails before you get here unless you have Starlink as there is no local signal. The loop goes up and down mountains, around them, into canyons, across the canyon floors, up and down again, through wooded areas too. It took me the whole day but it was well worth it. This campsite and the trails are hidden gems.

Very remote and very quiet. Beautiful hiking that wasn’t too technical. Definitely plan to be back!

Beautiful spot that’s way off the beaten track but worth the drive if you are looking for solitude. Great trail starting at the campground. Only drawback was the RV sites, which are basically just a parking area with no privacy, but we ended up moving to the parking area for the tent sites because nobody was there. Would definitely go back.

So much place overthere and then just a smal parking next to each other. And, 24 hours/ a parcked owned diesel-generator! disturbing the silence and the evironment.

From Carlsbad NM to the Dog Canyon area of Guadalupe Mountains National Park, take US Hwy 285 north to NM Hwy 137 and turn south. Travel (62 miles/100 km) to Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Dog Canyon entrance.
From the Pine Springs Visitor Center to Dog Canyon, take US Hwy 62/180 east. Once you enter New Mexico, travel 25 miles (40 km) and turn left onto County Road 408 (Dark Canyon road). Travel approximately 23 miles (27 km) to the intersection with NM Hwy 137/Queen Hwy, turn left/south. Follow Queen Hwy 25 miles (40 km) to the Dog Canyon entrance. The drive time between Dog Canyon Campground and Pine Springs Campground is 2 hours.
Use extreme caution! This is open rangeland, cattle are frequently on the roadway.
