What Guests Are Saying
Cedar Point Recreation Area is a quiet and beautiful destination, ideal for kayaking with opportunities to observe wildlife like Great White Egrets and Blue Herons. While the facilities include basic bathrooms and the campsites are close together with limited parking, the serene shoreline walks and peaceful atmosphere make it a lovely spot for nature lovers. However, it is somewhat remote from shopping options.

Quiet and beautiful. There are clean but basic bathrooms, one being a porta potty in the area of campsites 4-9. Those campsites are also very close together and limited parking. There are no real hiking trails but you can walk along the shoreline and around the park on the roads. It is also a good way off from shopping aside from a gas station a few miles away.

Lovely and easy place to launch kayaks for heading up the river. You can paddle all the way to the Falls in the quiet of the day with birds all around. Today my husband counted nearly 40 Great White Egret and several Blue Heron along with several other kinds. It's a beautiful park and area!

We camped at site 2 on a Sunday and had the entire area to ourselves. We loved exploring the beach area in front of our campsite. We also paddled around the other sites and explored some small islands. I recommend water shoes as there was glass at our campsite and zebra mussels in the water. The only other downside was 1000's of flies and it was hard to get stakes in the ground for our tent. These were the only reasons I didn't give it 5 stars. We also didn't see the bathroom so can't review that.
Pros: Easy water access, lots for kids to explore, great bird and deer watching, perfect calm water for paddle boards/kayaker, shade. And just plain beautiful.
Cons: Flies, glass, and hard rock for staking.
Side note: When we arrived a nice family was in our original camp site 3 but we gladly moved to #2. Park host was wonderful about it and then left us alone which I prefer. We will be back very soon!!

We went to Cedar Point right after Christmas. The weather was great during the day, around 60 degrees but during the night, it was very cold so if you plan to go here during winter make sure to pack up some warm blankets. We were at campsite 8, no electric outlet and a bit far from the bathroom but we didn’t mind driving to the bathroom or walking there. The campsite is located in an isolated island, along with around 5 more campsite. Nice and peaceful, you can fish pretty easy off the shore. We fished but couldn’t get a bite at the time.

I last paddled this Kayak Trip - CEDAR POINT TO FALL CREEK FALLS LOOP 11/19/2019. - approx. 3.5 Paddle-Hours along approx. 7 Lake-River-Miles (actual Trip-Miles will vary) on upper Lake Buchanan, Texas
A Paddle-Trip Loop from Cedar Point Recreation Area Boat Ramp - (upper Lake Buchanan - North Shore) to Fall Creek Falls - (off the Lower Colorado River - South Shoreline) - Looping back to Cedar Point Recreation Area The weather and water conditions and lack of much boat or other activity made for quit a mellow paddle experience.
Cedar Point Recreation Area on North Shore Lake Buchanan, Texas is a fantastic launch location for several Kayak Trips that offer lake, river, Islands access, Bird watching beautiful scenery and tranquility. Big plus that overnight camping is available as well which is nice if you are traveling a good distance to get there.
