Lake Hill

We love this lake and campground. However the pond is beginning to feel over fished. Paddling on the canoe you used to be able to see hundreds of fish swimming around. And now it’s more like a free dozen.

We were in the smaller group site and it accommodated our group of 30 perfectly. I don’t think many more would have been well accommodated. We were all in tents and had 8 vehicles. There is no camp host and so the other group site was blasting music late at night and early in the morning (not sure when they slept). No dumpsters but they got the water working great and there’s a spigot in the middle of the site which was amazing. Pics on recreation.gov aren’t right as of now (the one with the spigot in the pic is of this group site). One long table and one fire ring, there were about 5 small tent spots that were flat, and a large not super flat area for our large tents. Right on top of a ridge so you have amazing views in both directions; can see into Ephraim valley from the site! Beautiful area, quakie grove just up the mountain on a trail right by the campsite.

The site has a huge table that was perfect for us to use. There are plenty of smaller little flat spaces for lots of tents. There is a vault toilet just down the hill from it.

It is beautiful in that area, but the campground was not. We stayed in the group campground 1 and it is very small for a large group. Our party was 22 people, 8 that were kids, we had 3 trailers and 4 tents and it was difficult to find enough flat areas to set up our tents. There is a very large picnic table, which was great, but the biggest issue is that there is a vault toilet at the bottom of the hill, but it only has one stall that is servicing 2 group areas, other campsites, and the small reservoir. When we first got there, the smell was so overwhelming that it made it difficult to even go in. There was 1 roll of toilet paper. The ranger came the day after we got there and put in an additional 5 rolls of toilet paper, which was gone that next morning. We had to take our own toilet paper down each time. There was mud at the entrance way to the toilet, which was not cleaned up and the smell was still horrible. They should have at bare minimum someone assigned to squirt out the restroom. We knew we would have to haul out our garbage, which is not a problem, but the biggest issue was the lack of restrooms to service that big of an area. We would not recommend this campsite if you have a large group.

For a second year the water was shut off at the campground. We only had water on Monday of the reservation. Tuesday - Friday, we had no water. Forrest management told us that too much chlorine had been added to the water system and did not know when the water would be available. Once again camping without access to any water. Required driving to Ephraim to buy water for drinking and buy meals because we could not cook and clean-up without water.

No notification of any kind that there has been ongoing water issues. One of the main reasons as a large family reunion we choose this campground. With water issues two years in a row, we wii be reconsidering our next location for a family reunion.

The campground was very beautiful and clean. We saw plenty of fish in the lake. I was impressed with how well the grounds was maintained.
