About Desolation Gray Canyons Screen Cabins

The Green River splits the 10,000 foot high Tavaputs Plateau to form the rugged canyons of Desolation Gray Canyons. Access to the canyons is the Sand Wash Ranger Station, a remote primative boat ramp and campground. While the canyons and river can be remote, rugged and beautiful during the hot summer months, Sand Wash can be overrun by mosquitos. Weather can run the gamet from hot 100 degree days with no wind, to wind, rain, or snow. Screen cabins are provided to allow the boater an escape from the bugs and weather.

The rangers are always top notch, being informative, but also helping all responsible parties keep the canyon in good shape.

Wow, an amazing place to start our trip down the Desolation and Gray Cantons. The bathrooms here are IMMACULATE, cleaned 3 times a day, first time I’ve seen solar lights in toilets. Screened tents were clean and functional, no bugs so we were inside and outside

Great spot! Turned out there were no mosquitoes but nice to have some shade cuz we got there early to rig boats. Bathrooms were extraordinarily clean and smelled like lemon! Amazingly friendly ranger Reece. Great spot, great people, great experience!

Very handy place to stay the night before launching. The description says it sleeps 8, and I think it could, but that would be pretty close quarters. Probably 3 to 5 comfortably.

The screened cabin was great for cooking and getting out of the sun during the day. Fortunately we didn’t really have the amount of bugs we had anticipated but it was great having a place to set up kitchen and eat. Reese the ranger was great also.

The cabins were very clean and came with a small table that was perfect for a night's stay.

This wasn't completely necessary for this time of year before departing on the river for a week but my group was still thankful that we had it to cook in and store our things in overnight. It was very clean too.
