I visited Zion every summer when I was a child, and I was able to take my own children here for the first time. Wow, how the park has changed over the last 30 years! Zion is beautiful and its grandeur doesn’t disappoint. The sites at the Watchman campground are smaller than I remember, however this site easily accommodated our popup camper and vehicle. This site is shaded by a large tree almost the entire day. There is a restroom, water station and dumpster within a 1 minute walk. The amphitheater and river access are just a few minute walk.
We visited in the last week of July. The park was extremely crowded, but still enjoyable. I thought wouldn’t like the shuttle busses, but they are actually very convenient and come frequently. We never had to wait more than a few minutes for a shuttle. However, I do feel though that the magic of Zion that I experienced as a child is gone. The huge amount of crowds is in complete contrast to the tranquil beauty of the place. I am so grateful for my beautiful childhood memories when we practically had the park to ourselves and could enjoy the majesty of God’s creation without the crowds and noise of people and shuttle busses.

Judging on the pictures, I logged on six months in advance and thought I was getting the most shaded spot for our summer roadtrip. That wasn’t the case as many of the trees in the campsite had died. We had morning shade but no afternoon shade. We camped in a tent so it got really hot, we couldn’t even cook it was so unbearable. The squirrels and chipmunks were restless. While we were in our campsite, they would try and take food, and even went as far as chewed around the plastic casing of our cooler while we had our eye off it. Completely destroyed it. The location of the campsite saved it though, very close to shuttles and the bridge across town. Loved having the Zion outfitter showers right across the bridge and the brew pub!

Great location, easy to walk to the visitors center. Amazing views all around.
Site was perfectly leveled.
The only inconvenience was that the RV door gets slightly towards the restroom and the neighboring site. That said, we’d stay at this site again without hesitation!
Note that there are no public showers at Zion so you may need to dump grey water more frequently.

This campsite was lovely! Would highly recommend hiking up the nearby Watchman Trail for sunrise in the mornings! Moderate elevation gain and great views.

Convenient, only campground within park right now. Shuttle stops short walk away. Very crowded, car from site next door was parked almost outside my tent. Not much shade, very few trees. The price you pay for camping at one of the most popular national parks. Still prefer this over one of the tourist campgrounds outside the park.
