Carter Military Trail Yurt

This stay exceeded our expectations. It’s very apparent that the USFS (and especially Oaklee!) takes amazing care of this place. It doesn’t have electricity or running water, but the lantern provided enough light for us to play games at night, and there is a trailhead style toilet about 100 ft away. There was water in the creek that was about another 100 ft away from the toilet, but idk if the creek is always available. We stayed for 2 nights and maybe had a dozen or so people go by. Our dogs had a blast as well with one not wanting to leave. Even though we live about 7-8 hours away, we will definitely be back. Thanks again to the USFS for providing such a cozy and fun experience.

Unfortunately, our experience with the hunting in the area was disappointing. We found the hunting opportunities around Carter Military Trail Yurt to be very limited, and we did not have much success during our stay. The location itself may be suitable for some visitors, but if your primary reason for booking is to hunt, I would recommend doing some additional research on current game activity and hunting success in the area before making your plans.

Great off the grid structure! Enjoyed it very much. Clean enough and just the right amount of space and necessities.

Loved this little Yurt. My Fiance and I got almost a foot of snow in late june but the Yurt was VERY cozy with plenty of things to do nearby, game to play and a stove to keep us warm. The yurt is really well maintained and in gorgeous country. We will be coming back.

Fantastic

We have used this yurt every year since 2016, and have never been disappointed. The Forest Service does a great job maintaining the yurt, the surrounding area, and the vault toilet. We do wish that some of the users would be more mindful of those coming afterwards. This year, I had to clean trash out of the outdoor fire pit before we could use it. Then, on the second morning, when it was raining, decided to make an indoor fire in the wood stove and found it full of trash and ashes. I tried to burn the trash, but when I cleaned the ashes I had to pick out several pieces of foil. Is it such a burden to take a trash bag with you and carry out your trash? Pack it in, Pack it out!!!

Cozy and well equipped. We had a great time!

We were in the area elk hunting so the location was very convenient. The facility itself was clean and provided everything we needed.

Spectacular location and a comfortable space.

This yurt is fantastic. The area is great and they have thought of many things inside that were needed. Clean and windows are great.
Mosquitoes were in full force this time around.
