About Summit Springs Guard Station

Summit Springs Guard Station is located a couple of miles off the Sheep Creek Geological Loop southwest of Flaming Gorge in the high Uinta Mountain Range. The Civilian Conservation Corps built the complex in 1931 as part of Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal. It was one of 11 guard stations built in the area to serve as homes for rangers who patrolled the forest on horseback prior to the modern age of vehicles. The complex includes the guard station, bunkhouse, parking area, and fenced yard. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Ashley National Forest has chosen to rehabilitate and rent this guard station and bunkhouse to the public so that guests can enjoy a rustic experience similar to that of the first rangers. It is available from mid-May through mid-September.

This is an excellent location for a family reunion. There is plenty of space for additional tents and all the yard games you can bring. Make sure to bring a generator to power the cabin.

We had a wonderful family reunion!
The grounds are beautiful! Lots of room to play and set up tents. Plenty of trees for shade. A place of quiet and solitude.
The cabins are rustic. Lovely tasting spring water. Hot showers and flush toilets. A kitchen for cooking and washing.
The camp hosts were available and kind.

Great place for a family to spend some quality time! Don’t expect a five star hotel it’s a camping get away with some perks. Lots of space to make it fun. Great location lots of options for hiking, biking, boating, fishing etc. As a family we would do it again.

The facility was everything that we needed it to be. Beautiful location, and exactly what we were looking for. The camp hosts were really not great. They were camping there with their friends, they were having a party. We paid 800 for this spot and during our meeting at 8 pm they had loud music, really loud laughing and party. It was disappointing to have the camp hosts be like that. The bunkhouse was not unlocked when we got there, the host was really rude about where we parked the campers (but no one was there to let us know where to park) Hours after we got there he came and yelled at us to pull forward 3 feet. Had to hook back on a move it. The place is great, the host, not so much.

Be aware that there is a camp host camped very close by in an area that appears to be for your use.

I rented the property for our family reunion. We has 23 people attending. We love the houses, the children especially love the bunk House. The adults enjoyed the main house. It is so nice to have a bathroom with showers and a nice equipped kitchen. Outside is beautiful, with many tables for eating and entertaining our group. The extra property allowed a trailer to join our group. We all had a wonderful time. We would easily rent it again.
