Nice small little site perfect for solo camping

We camp here every year and have for 25 years. Last year while we were there the pump broke and so the toilets stopped working and the running water. We were understanding and assumed it would be fixed this year. Unfortunately it was not fixed. There was no water and the toilets were replaced by honey buckets. There were not enough honey buckets for all the campers so they filled quickly and were not serviced often enough. One of the main reasons we love this campsite is because of the water and the toilets. We will be asking for a full refund and insist that these things be fixed.

I was shocked when I arrived that the campground was divided into loops A, B, C, D, and E. When I made my reservation on recreation.gov, it didn't have a downloadable map of the campground and listed every campsite as in loop "Mont." I just knew I had site #6. There was some sort of map on the info board at the campground entrance, but I was towing a trailer and had a vehicle behind me, so instead of stopping and blocking their way, I went to loop A. I found campsite #6, but there were two other names on the reserved sign. So I drove back to the main entrance, did a 12-point u-turn with my trailer, looked at the map, realized I was at the right campsite, and drove back. Then I realized the names were for dates that had passed. Grr! Then I went to use the bathroom. The Recreation.gov website states that the facilities include "Flush and vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection are provided." Lucky me! My campsite was in a loop with a vault toilet. And there was something completely wrapped in plastic outside of the bathroom that I assume was a water spigot. So no flush toilet, no sinks, and no water of any kind for the loop my campsite was in. The map at the campground entrance did not mark where the flush toilets and drinking water was.

The camping was fine, but Recreation.gov should do a much better job of providing a downloadable map of the campground, of noting which loop each campsite is in, and of noting which loops have a vault toilet and no water and which (if any) have flush toilets and drinking water.

The camp host is very abrasive! I personally watched him verbally attack 2 different people. In both instances, the people had no idea they were breaking the rules. The host flew off the handle and told them to pack up their stuff and “get out of here” before even telling them what the issue was. Both times, the individuals naturally asked for clarification and this just escalated his anger and he threatened to call the sheriff. Keep in mind, these people and even myself as an observer didn’t know what the Host was so angry about at first. Once the people understood what “rule” they had broke, they were accommodating and corrected the issue. I believe if the host had approached these situations in a professional and calm manner there wouldn’t have been any issue. I felt bad for the lady in the site next to me. She cried after the host walked away and was visibly upset. There was no need for the host to act this way. The other situation involved a street legal Razor. The gentleman driving it didn’t think there was a problem having it in the campground since he was able to drive it from his home in Huntsville legally. The host approached him angry and yelling. The host didn’t even introduce himself. Once again, the host approached this man, yelling “get out of here or I am calling the sheriff.” The gentleman asked clarifying questions, in a calm manner, and the host became even more belligerent. It is only natural and a persons right to understand what rules they are breaking. No person should be approached by a camp host in the way this man approached these people. The host should have calmly explained the problem. Instead he was terrible to these people and his behavior was inexcusable. I guarantee you if you had a “secret shopper” type camper in a spot by the host and they broke a rule, you would see this behavior. I saw him explode both days I was there, so chances of this being isolated are slim.

Beautiful campground, well taken care of. They water was off so we had to use a porta potty, which wasn't a huge deal. Love how close to the Salt Lake valley this area is.

Four of us came and enjoyed a few nights in campground 44. It was absolutely lovely watching the storms come in and out. The campgrounds were spread out enough where we didn’t feel we were sleeping in the same camp as our neighbors. We’d love to come back and catch a meteor shower on a clear night!

We love this camp ground. It sits in the beautiful pines and has wildlife around to enjoy. They are always clean and easily accessible.

Monte Cristo campground is beautiful. The host came around often to check things and see if we needed anything. He also made sure it was quiet during quiet hours and kept ATV riders out, which we appreciated. We plan on visiting again. Wish it didn't clos so early in Sept.

Campsite was amazing. They had a broken water main so no running water but they let us know in advance so we could bring our own. Porta potties we’re brought in and we’re very clean. The camp hosts were great. I’d highly recommend Monte Cristo and will definitely be back

Several things wrong with this. First of all, I was compelled to pay more than I should have because of how your reservation site works. I paid for the first day. "Assuming your site meant what days to nights I was going to stay, I wanted Thursday through Saturday. So I checked Thursday and Friday, assuming that friday night was included. Looked back and saw it was not, so I had to book another night and had to pay another $8 for "reservation fees" I assume to cover the cost of reserving the site. $8 for an automated system? WOW! Someone has someone over a barrel for sure on that one.

My son reserved Wednesday night and Sunday night (not sure why, he just wanted to). Because this was a cancelation of someone, we reserved them the first of the week apx. When we got there Wed night to setup, there was another name on the reservation card. The poor host, it was past his bed time (about 8:20 PM) and he was listed as closed. I had to bother him because I didn't want to intrude on another reservation. He confirmed ours so we set up. It wasn't till Thursday that he was given an updated listing with our name on it. That needs fixing.

Next problem, no water. No discount. Nothing. No explanation as to why no water either, just that it was being turned off and we had to bring our own up.

Next problem. Mens vault house was out of order. The womans one was poorly maintained. Don't you people with all the money you collect for camp sites ever use it to keep up and maintain the sites? Shameful.

Next problem. Why do you people abuse your summer help? Why don't you treat them with kindness and respect? There's no reason for the little money you pay them to make them feel like trash. Our host was quite upset on how he was being treated. And this isn't the first time this has happened up there. Fix it. Fix your managers. Treat people with the respect they deserve. There's zero call to mistreat any of them ever.
