About North Bend Park

North Bend Park is located on John H. Kerr Reservoir, a 50,000-acre lake that extends 39 miles up the wooded, cove-studded shoreline of the Roanoke River in Virginia and North Carolina. North Bend is the largest park on Kerr Lake and is located near Kerr Dam and the Corps Visitor Assistance Center. Kerr Reservoir, also known as Buggs Island Lake, was created with the construction of the John H. Kerr Dam in 1952. Its 800 miles of wooded shoreline stretch across six counties and two states and offer countless recreation opportunities for visitors.

This is a beautiful park with a clear clean lake and forests. Paddling and fishing are amazing here. There is a nice bike trail and great picnic areas and beaches.
The website clearly states that they have a limit of people per site, which is six. Several of the groups in our area had twice the number of people, and three vehicles. The large size of the groups adds stress due to the closeness of sites in the loop we where located in. Park staff was aware of the situation. Why bother having rules when you don't enforce them? The loop only had two restrooms, one for men, and one for women. Having double the amount of campers per site made the restroom situation impossible and unsanitary.

Campground and facilities were very clean. Staff were super nice and friendly. Camp sites were very well organized with picnic tables and cooking tables. The scenery of the lake was beautiful. We will be back.

We had a great time. The only thing is the site we had 134B is normally a wonderful site but they had cut trees down and left all the tree items on the ground which look very bad for the site. Plus this will get snakes, ants and other bugs near the site. This really needs to be cleaned up. That is one of the reason we love it at the lake because the grounds are normally very nice and clean. Also, the bathroom was broken and was not fixed while we were there for 4 days not sure why.

We stayed at North Bend on a rainy weekend but we enjoyed our stay and wineries nearby. We hadn't been here since before COVID and were surprised that checkin was still a face to face as so many places now have moved away from that but it was fine. We stayed in campground D with our 33ft Airstream and had a nice level large site. This campground has lots of waterfront sites but be aware many of them do not have water or electric. Inside sites do and still have water views for the most part.
