About Rudds Creek Rec. Area

Rudds Creek Park is located on John H. Kerr Reservoir, a 50,000-acre lake that extends 39 miles up the wooded, cove-studded shoreline of the Roanoke River in Virginia and North Carolina. Rudd's Creek Campground is open April 1 - October 31. The Day Use Park, located across Hwy 58, is open year-around. Kerr Reservoir, also known as Buggs Island Lake, was created with the construction of the John H. Kerr Dam in 1952. Its 800 miles of wooded shoreline stretch across six counties in two states and offer countless recreation opportunities for visitors.

This is a very nice campground. Pretty quite. Bath house was nice and clean. Only talked with the staff at check in and they were very nice. I would come back again

This is the fourth time we've stayed at Rudds Creek and it has always been a great experience. Sites are spacious, level and utilities work perfectly. Lake was high this trip and that made it even more beautiful as we sat out and enjoyed the views.

Policies & Rules

Arrival & departure

  • The campground gate house is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. from April 1 to October 31.

Site capacity

  • Camping equipment must fit within the site perimeters and tents should have padding due to gravel bases.
  • The maximum stay is 14 days within any 30-day period, and changing reservations to extend the stay is prohibited.

Safety & rules

  • Generators and music must be turned off by 10:00 p.m.
  • Mail and packages cannot be sent to the park; they will be refused and returned to the sender.

Site types & loops

  • Alcoholic beverages and off-road vehicles are not allowed in the campground.

Fees & deposits

  • Interagency Senior and Access Pass holders get a 50% discount on camping fees, but must be present at registration.
