About Rudds Creek Rec. Area

Rudds Creek Park is located on John H. Kerr Reservoir, a 50,000-acre lake that extends 39 miles up the wooded, cove-studded shoreline of the Roanoke River in Virginia and North Carolina. Rudd's Creek Campground is open April 1 - October 31. The Day Use Park, located across Hwy 58, is open year-around. Kerr Reservoir, also known as Buggs Island Lake, was created with the construction of the John H. Kerr Dam in 1952. Its 800 miles of wooded shoreline stretch across six counties in two states and offer countless recreation opportunities for visitors.

Rudds Creek has been our favorite camp park for over 17 years. It is clean and well maintained and offers all of the features that you might want when camping, wooded sites, water access. two beaches, fishing etc.

We love Rudds Creek campground. We usually go 3 to 4 times a year. This year in June we had numerous bug bites that we have never experienced before. I heard of people speaking about midges which are sort of like mosquitoes. The bites were horrible and painful. I wish the campground could spray for these bugs. Other than that the stay was pleasant as always.

Policies & Rules

Arrival & departure

  • The campground gate house is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. from April 1 to October 31.

Site capacity

  • Camping equipment must fit within the site perimeters and tents should have padding due to gravel bases.
  • The maximum stay is 14 days within any 30-day period, and changing reservations to extend the stay is prohibited.

Safety & rules

  • Generators and music must be turned off by 10:00 p.m.
  • Mail and packages cannot be sent to the park; they will be refused and returned to the sender.

Site types & loops

  • Alcoholic beverages and off-road vehicles are not allowed in the campground.

Fees & deposits

  • Interagency Senior and Access Pass holders get a 50% discount on camping fees, but must be present at registration.
