Stayed in site 24 and I was very impressed. It was Columbus Day weekend and most of Rudd's Creek was filled, except for the standard sites. These sites have no hookups, but that suits my kind of camping. What impressed me most was how the sites around #24 were positioned. It seemed as if you were in the woods all by yourself. Very quiet and peaceful.
The site was large, with plenty of space for my tent (14' x 14.5') plus my boat and truck, along with my son's car. The standard fixtures of picnic table and fire ring were in great shape, plus I liked the separate pedestal table which made a perfect place to cook. Site was convenient to the showers and the bathrooms were clean and but not well stocked that weekend, my only disappointment.
There is a boat ramp a short distance from the camp site but there is no parking area for the trailer, so we opted for the boat ramp across the road from the campground. Great ramps and plenty of parking. It's a short run to the main body of Kerr Lake. Also, my grandson liked the playground area a short walk from the camp site. Also a nice looking swim area with a sand beach. Too cold to use it this weekend.
This was my first time using the Virginia campground and I was pleasantly surprised. I was also very pleased with the folks at the gate. Super friendly and helpful. In fact, they asked if I had a senior pass and then applied it to the site rental, cutting the price in half. It would be good for Recreation.gov to improve their billing process because when I reserved the site, there was no indication that the Senior Pass was accepted.
Great camping experience though and I do recommend the recreation area.

Our power did not work at our site, it ran our battery dead. We had to purchase a new battery which we did not need due to the electrical box not being grounded. The park ranger called for emergency work order Saturday night however Sunday the problem came back so we had to check out early due to the frustration and fear of the electrical box messing up our camper.

This was one of the nicest COE campgrounds we have visited. We were in site 78, which was right on the water. Site was large, a bit angled so there was more privacy. The roads in the campground were wide, the bathhouses looked as if they had recently been redone and the whole campground was well kept. It was a great value. The only reason this isn't 5 stars is the lack of sewer. COEs really should work to provide at least gray water disposal for their RV campsites, if not full sewer as many nicer state parks have done.

Very clean site with a view, through the trees, of the lake.
Peaceful.

We had site 008 in early October for 2 nights with some significant rain. The bathrooms were a little bit of a walk, but were exceptionally clean with showers and warm water. The campground area is large and we saw TONS of mushrooms walking through, as well as around our site. The sun sets behind the lake view. The platform for the tent was level and the gravel helped avoid puddles. The fire ring had an adjustable cooking grate, and the site came with a table and elevated hook. Kids near the swimming area can be loud, but proximity is great for families. Looking forward to our next visit!
