About Rudds Creek Rec. Area

Rudds Creek Park is located on John H. Kerr Reservoir, a 50,000-acre lake that extends 39 mi up the wooded, cove-studded shoreline of the Roanoke River in Virginia and North Carolina. Rudd's Creek Campground is open April 1 - October 31. The Day Use Park, located across Hwy 58, is open year-around. Kerr Reservoir, also known as Buggs Island Lake, was created with the construction of the John H. Kerr Dam in 1952. Its 800 mi of wooded shoreline stretch across six counties in two states and offer countless recreation opportunities for visitors.

We had a great stay at the camp ground once again. Everyone was friendly and courteous. Bath house was clean and within easy walking distance. My only negative was that site 52 was pretty steep and we almost could not unhook the boat trailer because of the truck angle leaving the trailer very close to the ground. It did say in the description it is steep, just have to pick a different site in the future. 5 stars, we always enjoy staying here.

Arrival & departure

  • The campground gate house is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. from April 1 to October 31.

Site capacity

  • Camping equipment must fit within the site perimeters and tents should have padding due to gravel bases.
  • The maximum stay is 14 days within any 30-day period, and changing reservations to extend the stay is prohibited.

Safety & rules

  • Generators and music must be turned off by 10:00 p.m.
  • Mail and packages cannot be sent to the park; they will be refused and returned to the sender.

  • Alcoholic beverages and off-road vehicles are not allowed in the campground.

Fees & deposits

  • Interagency Senior and Access Pass holders get a 50% discount on camping fees, but must be present at registration.
