Loft Mountain Campground

Great campsite. Well maintained. Bathrooms are super clean. Looking forward to coming back.

The campground and the area are absolutely beautiful. The staff and camp host were friendly and helpful.
Here’s the drawback for large RVs/campers. The CG sits atop a hill and many areas a sloped. Most of the sites are arched and the length of the pad as stated on the Recreation.gov website are the arch. This is not a true reflection of what size RV can fit on the site. They are VERY tight and many are sloped enough that a larger RV cannot raise or lower enough to be level. The site pictures on the website are NOT reflective of the actual site itself as they do not show the slope or tightness of the arch well. I made several calls to the NPS and CG before going. They all assured me we would have no issues with our 44 ft fifth wheel. NOT SO! Thank goodness the camp host and Rangers were willing to make some shuffles to get us in a spot we could fit.
Beautiful area though and highly recommend it for smaller RVs.

We loved this campground. It was perfect for our small trailer. Bigger rigs may have problems finding a site. A lot of great tent camping. It's a great, central location to a lot of beautiful hiking. And it's right off the AT, so can hike without driving anywhere. Didn't see any bears, but a lot of deer. Showers are $2.50 for 5 minutes. Facilities were clean and maintained.

Nice private site, but significant fog, so those camping need to make sure they give themselves enough time to get a sunny day.
Really appreciated availability of recycling bins.

This is an excellent campground in a beautiful setting. Lots of great hikes from the campground and other nearby places on Skyline Drive!

Check in and out was seamless. Camp stores, Waysides and Visitor centers were well stocked, clean and staff were friendly. Had a wonderful time with a Twilight guided hike in the meadows. Campsites are large, private and easily accessible. Showers were $2.50 for 5 min. Wish they were cleaned and maintained better with the heavy traffic of hikers and campground visitors. However, like everywhere, they seemed short staffed. Cannot wait to visit again.

A56 is a great first come first serve tent or camping site to enjoy the sunsets at Loft Mountain. If you are strictly tenting, A19 and A20 have the absolute best sunset views over the mountain lines. Staying along the western ridge of the campground has a great view, a nice breeze, and good company around us. Most of the western sites are best suited for a small camper RVs, we tent and would stay at most of the sites for their view.

We were pleasantly surprised by site availabilities, there are two host families on-grounds, and bathrooms are clean with sinks and toilets. There are also water faucets at the toilet areas so please bring jugs to fill and use at your campsite as you are not permitted to wash dishes at the toilet areas. If you venture down to the camp store you will be thrilled with the availability of prepackaged goods, cold items (hard cider), ice, trail food, firewood (at a great price), hot showers ($2.50=5-minutes), fuel canisters, and hardgoods in case you forgot something at home.

**Our number one complaint is there are two female deer in the campground and they both have fawns. Well, the moms DO NOT like dogs, so walking your pup in mid-June will be challenging. The mother closer to the main gate is forcefully aggressive, she will intimidate you, push you, and get within 15 ft with lips curled to get you to move well beyond where her fawn is bedded. Avoid the main gate momma deer as she will not hesitate to chase you and your dog back down the hill. Mom number two is down between rows A through D and she is a bit more reserved but will back you down a road if her fawn is out grazing among the campsites. Mom two will let you pass peacefully if her fawn is bedded nearby, stare at you cautiously, but will not walk towards you with your dog unless the fawn is active.

Tent sites are decent. Quiet and comfortable. A bit small for the two tents we brought and there was position ivy all around the area. Overall, okay. The campsite (loft mountain) was a bit underwhelming. Many of the paths/ roads are overgrown and the maintenance seems lacking. Paid showers are a bit over the top too. Overall, I have stayed at much better fed campsites for a lot less money.

Restroom were very clean. Great trails.
