Salthouse Branch offers a lovely, family-friendly campground with clean facilities, friendly staff, and beautiful surroundings, making it a favorite for many visitors. Guests appreciate the vibrant atmosphere, especially for children, with ample opportunities for outdoor activities like kayaking and biking. This is our third time this year at Salt House Branch. We enjoy our times there. They keep the bath houses clean and blow the falling leaves off the roads (walking trails). The Hosts are always helpful and the store that is almost on the property makes it nice to refil the propane tanks. If you want to get away from the grind itt your place. No TV signal for us but enough cell signal to use the phone. Already looking forward to kayaking there next year.

When we arrived around 9pm (dark & just before gates close), we were informed that our 38' rig probably wouldn't fit in the site chosen (a no-hookup site). He was able to accommodate in a full hook-up stand RV parking-lot site for one night (but I had registered for 2). We paid the additional for the hook-up (actually got a refund of partial from our 2 night reservation), parked and settled in. The next day we walked to my original choice and decided we could get in (it would be tight & some "drivers" probably couldn't do it). We then went & asked for that site for our second night, again paid the difference & moved our rig.
The attendant was being cautious & had indicated that smaller rigs than mine had bottomed out in my original spot. I don't fault him for this. Better information on the web-site would be beneficial - although keeping track of each particular site nation-wide is also no small task.
All in all the location is amazing. The people were friendly & very helpful. We will go back & probably stay in the no-hookup location (boondocking in a big rig is why I go it). The RV full hook-up lot is nice, but its just a nice RV lot.

Wonderful campground with friendly staff and clean heated restrooms with showers. Close to the Blue Ridge Parkway. We've stayed here 3 times and have never been disappointed.

Lake water was down over 3 feet so fishing wasn't the greatest but we had beautiful weather and had a few good days fishing. Enjoyed the relaxing on the boat and kayak in peaceful setting. Campground was clean and quiet and everyone was friendly.

The lake and dam are beautiful Great things to see. They have a road in the campground that brings you along the lake very Pretty The campground was awful The sites are so small know room to park your vehicle. My camper was inches from the road.Had to put truck on side of camper. We we opened our side you could not use fire pit.Rug hung over in fire pit You could not step out of our space because a row about two feet high of gravel and rocks ran down the whole side The camper are on top of each other Have stayed in 11 COE have never seen one so over crowed.Have a store outside the gate is open only 4 days a week Would not stay here again

The grounds were beautiful, and my campsite was the best, with a view of the lake from my tent. The hike was lovely and the paddling was glorious! I wish I had an orientation, as it was my first camp out and I didn't know there was access to fresh water outside and I never found a place to buy firewood so could not use the fire pit. And, since it was my first time out to camp in a park like that, I didn't know that friends got a 50% senior discount, and I'm 66, and I could have used that money to buy firewood if I found any. That was the only downside, just didn't know some of the things I needed to know to make it better. Maybe you can pass this on to other newbie camping seniors!
