Salthouse Branch Campground is nestled on the shores of Philpott Lake in the rugged foothills of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains. The park is located in a rural and sparsely populated part of Franklin County near the small community of Henry. Philpott Lake's clear water and natural shoreline make it a unique place for visitors to enjoy boating, fishing, hiking, picnicking and camping. Don't follow the GPS on your phone. The campground is back off the beaten path on a twisty hilly road. Make sure you bring your A game driving skills. We arrived early and had to wait for our site to open up so don't arrive too soon before 4pm. Front gate staff friendly. Area patrolled by Park Ranger. No Alcohol and coolers are subject to search. The bathroom/showers are great and well maintained. Sites are very close to each other on fairly level gravel with fire pit and picnic tables. Park heavily used by the local folks on the weekend with lots of boating. They do have a beach area without a lifeguard. Big stores are about 30-40 minutes away however, there is a small store just outside the front gate but we didn't use it.
