About Cabin Camp 3

Cabin Camp 3 is located in Prince William Forest Park and is one of five large cabin camp facilities located in the park. Camp 3 is the only camp where visitors can rent a single cabin. There are thirteen cabins available for rent. The cabins are very rustic and provide a unique camping experience in Northern Virginia. The cabins offer easy access to 37 miles (60 km) of hiking and 21 miles (34 km) of biking trails in the park. The park's land was set aside during the Great Depression, and in 1935 the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) began restoring the previously over-farmed acreage, converting it to recreational lands for public use. The CCC built trails, dams and cabins, making the park a wonderful place for recreation and relaxation.

The only reason this is getting a 1 star is because I cannot give it a zero. I understand that we were camping and I understand that we were in nature. I also assumed that the cabin would be checked before we entered. Upon entry there was a strong ammonia smell, tons of bugs and more rat/mouse droppings than I expected. As we opened up the windows to air out the cabin, we found a snake...alive and well....and had clearly just eaten. We attempted to find the camp ground custodian to help us remove the snake but no luck. So, we removed the snake...no big deal, just a rat snake. Once the windows were open, we realized there were even more droppings than we thought and the cots were covered in rat/mouse droppings and urine...or some other liquid. Two were also chewed up and were too smelly to sleep on. At this point we were able to find the camp custodian who gave us disinfectant to wipe down the cots. We swept out the cots and floor to ensure safe air for our children. We shut the door and walked out a hike and a camp fire. About 9:30 we returned to the cabin to find mice, many mice...I counted 6 and stopped, told my husband to pack up because I was done and clearly NOT sleeping there. As i was gathering our things, I opened the cabin closets and found two mouse nests each about the size of a softball. Again, I get that we were out in nature but it was a little too up in my face and space for a rental we paid for.

We had all of unit B at Cabin Camp 3 to ourselves. The person staffing the camp was extremely friendly and helpful. She delivered several cords worth of firewood to use in the fire circle. Cabins were clean as was the bathhouse. Only gripe is that you had to drive to a trailhead as none were within walking distance without walking the road which is I’ll advised.

I liked the campgrounds , and the camp volunteer was very nice. I was disappointed though that my cabin did not have outlets for use. It did say on the website it had electricity, so that was a bit deceiving. That was cabin 5, so avoid that cabin if you want an outlet. Other than that, it was peaceful, I'd go again.

Only downsides were no fire pit close to cabin, older bathrooms where only one shower worked, and placement of the outside grill set off the smoke alarm in the cabin. That said, great time.

What a nice quiet spot we had at Cabin A9! It was the closest to the bathhouse and even had a playground right behind it! I am 33 weeks pregnant and found the mattress to be very comfortable.

We rented the entire of Cabin Camp 3 - Site B for a camping trip with 1st Grade Girl Scouts. This camp site includes three 10-person cabins (each w/ a picnic table & grill), a bathroom building, a craft lodge, and one fire circle. The buildings are very close - <75ft from one another. Each cabin has 3 rooms (doorways but no doors), two rooms have 4 cots (10x20) and 1 room has 2 cots (10x10), and all have closets. In each cabin only 1 room had 1 electrical plug. The rooms each have their own light/switch and ceiling fan. The windows have screens and wooden covers that can be opened or closed. The cabin has a small 12x12 entrance area w/ it's own light. Brooms were in each cabin for sweeping out. Lock was on the inside of the cabin only. The bathroom building had separate Male and Female facilities - 3 flush toilet stalls, 2 sinks w/ running water, and 2 hot showers. Ours was fully stocked w/ soap and toilet paper, though I recommend bringing your own as Cabin Camp 3 - Site A ran out and borrowed from us. The craft lodge was great - large 30x30 room w/ benches lining the walls (attached), 2 picnic tables, and 1 square large table (no chairs). Lights and paned glass & screened windows. Also, 1-2 electrical outlets for charging. Campfire ring is about 3-4ft in diameter and we were provided a small stack of free fire wood. Bring extra firewood if you plan to cook or have multiple fires. The Cabin Camp 3 site has 8 wagons to help transport your stuff to your camp site, but beware many families keep the wagons and don't return them to parking lot. Cabin Camp 3 - Site B is about 800ft from the parking lot - it is down and then up a steep hill. Also unlike Site A which is very flat Site B has no flat area and slopes entirely downhill. Do not plan on games in this area, lots of tree roots, no grass, and is muddy when it rains. The near by playground has a nice big flat open field. Overall great stay and we will be back.
