About Cabin Camp 3

Cabin Camp 3 is located in Prince William Forest Park and is one of five large cabin camp facilities located in the park. Camp 3 is the only camp where visitors can rent a single cabin. There are thirteen cabins available for rent. The cabins are very rustic and provide a unique camping experience in Northern Virginia. The cabins offer easy access to 37 mi (37.3 mi) of hiking and 21 mi (21.1 mi) of biking trails in the park. The park's land was set aside during the Great Depression, and in 1935 the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) began restoring the previously over-farmed acreage, converting it to recreational lands for public use. The CCC built trails, dams and cabins, making the park a wonderful place for recreation and relaxation.

Really enjoyed the cabins and fire pit areas! The hiking was great too and it helped to have the great weather! The waterfalls were beautiful and our girls enjoyed the sights and wildlife!

My wife and I enjoyed this simple cabin, set apart from roads with sufficient space outside around it and beautiful woods. The fan was nice the first day, but then it got a little cold. More roomy than a camper cabin and more character being part of a historic CCC built camp. The park is extensive, with lots of possibilities for walks in the woods. The second night was a bit noisy as a boisterous, albeit friendly, group of 8 young men came to stay at the cabin next door. The bathroom facilities and showers, about a 2-minute walk away, were simple but quite adequate. The location was easy to get to, no more than an hour’s drive from our home in DC. You can hear the traffic on I-95, but the cicadas partly drowned it out.

I like that each cabin had its own grill and ash bucket. Cabin camp 3 had no mosquitos when we went in July. The tall summer canopy provides such shade that the summer heat is very bearable. We heard bears at night but didn't see any. Shower water got warm enough. Over-all really enjoyed. The pond near cabin camp three was gross though according to my husband and son. I didn't make it down the hill before they came back up.
