About Oak Ridge Campground

Oak Ridge Campground is a 100-site, wooded campground located in Prince William Forest Park, 35 miles (56 km) southwest of Washington, DC. The park's land was set aside during the Great Depression, and in 1935 the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) began restoring the previously over-farmed acreage, converting it to recreational lands for public use. The CCC built trails, dams and cabins, making the park a wonderful place for recreation and relaxation. Large group camping is not permitted at Oak Ridge Campground. Please read the need to know section for additional information.

Lovely park, quite a distance to the campground from park entrance. Staff members were helpful and we enjoyed the displays in the visitor center. Sites range from expansive to pretty cramped. Our site was just right, close enough to restrooms and water source without being so close to Grand Central Station level crowds and noise from many, many tiny campers.

Most people come here for the weekend, so if you want a less crowded experience, the weekdays are better. You might want to pick a site close to the Comfort Station for the B sites since the comfort station for A section is out of commission. There are plenty of hiking trails and cycling is popular too. Sometimes you can hear distant gunfire from the marine reservation, but it is not too loud to be annoying.

Oak Ridge Campground has some really great campsites if you look at the map and reserve carefully. This weekend I got to enjoy one of those sites and it was tucked back into the woods away from the campground road. This is a great campground with great facilities and hiking opportunities right from the campground.

Camped at Oak Ridge with a Boy Scout troop. Excellent experience. Sites were clean, each had a fire pit and lantern pole, and picnic table. The bathroom/ showers were in great condition and were maintained nicely. I interacted with multiple members of the staff and they were friendly and helpful. Overall a very enjoyable experience, I highly recommend.

Wonderful campground overall, but the extremely loud neighboring campers unfortunately ruined the experience. I was pretty surprised that campers on both sides of our site were being very loud well past midnight (and until around 2am). Coupled with kids racing up and down the path early in the morning, we got almost no sleep with our kiddos. If people respected the quiet hours, this place would be top notch. Plenty of downed wood to use for the fire pit. The ground was a bit sloped but worked fine for our tent. The men's bathrooms were funky, but that's to be expected I guess. Overall the site itself was great. Will try again to see if we get a better group of neighbors next time.
