About Oak Ridge Campground

Oak Ridge Campground is a 100-site, wooded campground located in Prince William Forest Park, 35 miles (56 km) southwest of Washington, DC. The park's land was set aside during the Great Depression, and in 1935 the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) began restoring the previously over-farmed acreage, converting it to recreational lands for public use. The CCC built trails, dams and cabins, making the park a wonderful place for recreation and relaxation. Large group camping is not permitted at Oak Ridge Campground. Enjoyed our site and had a fun and memorable weekend. The site was very quiet and a quick walk to the bathroom. Went on a hike and enjoyed the weekend. Went to Fredericksburg for pizza and a bookstore.

Had a much better time this time around. Neighbors were much quieter, and this site was very nice. Bring firewood, since scavenging for firewood is tough, and when it's wet (like it was for us), you'll spend a lot of time keeping your fire going. Hardest part this time was the ticks (killed six just setting up the tent) and the super loud motorcycle groups on the nearby roadway that kept going up and down the road after midnight. All things considered, it was a great time, though. Will stay again.

Great campground. Well maintained. The host was great, very friendly, attentive, and consistently made rounds that indicated their commitment as hosts. We are repeat campers that will continue to come back.

It's nobody's fault, but the camp sites are so close together that I could have a conversation with the people in the next camp at normal indoor voice volume.

I was greeted warmly when I arrived - the site hosts and a park ranger were having a meeting at the entrance to the campground. I wasn't sure if I needed to check in with them, but they pointed me on to my site, handed me a map (I arrived after the park entrance station was no longer manned), and let me know they'd be around a little later to record license plates.

The site itself (C26) was very clean and he'd plenty of space for our two tents. We made great use of the fire pit and the table!

The site is connected to just two of the main hiking trails, so it's a longer way to some parts of the park, but as a tradeoff it was quiet and beautiful!

The shower was clean and in working order. The toilets are fine at the two stations without the showers - people should clean up better after themselves. The bathroom buildings all had an open water closet which was perfect for filling a water bucket for the campfire!

Campground was well maintained and nearly empty the 2nd week of June. The bathroom was clean and the campground hosts were pleasant.
Unfortunately, the site we stayed in C-11 flooded during a heavy rain. the camp road is graded wrong and a river came rushing down the road and across site C-8 and into our site c-11. We had over 2” of pooled water in most of our campsite. Fortunately it drained and we were able to pack up our muddy gear and head home
